A group of prominent Hollywood actors — Jamie Lee Curtis, Robert De Niro, Noah Wyle and Martin Sheen — are lending their voices to a new Constitution Day video from the American Constitution Society, reciting the oath of office ahead of the midterm elections, according to Breitbart News.
The roughly minute-long clip, posted to the ACS Instagram account, features each participant stating their name before cutting to another person to complete a sentence, in a chain-style recitation.
Who appears in the video
Each participant introduces themselves before reciting the oath. In order of appearance, according to Breitbart’s report, they are: Jamie Lee Curtis; Noah Wyle; Robert De Niro; retired federal judge J. Michael Luttig; actor Ramón Gerard Estévez, known professionally as Martin Sheen; and Dr. Isaiah Ike Wilson III, a retired U.S. Army colonel.
The group then repeats the oath in alternating lines: “And I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic,” followed by “That I will continue to bear true faith and allegiance to the same, and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion.”
Curtis delivers the closing line, saying, “I am proud to affirm my oath to the Constitution.” The video then cuts to all six participants on screen together, adding in unison, “And I hope you will, too.”
Breitbart noted that the script closely mirrors the oath taken by members of Congress, military personnel and new citizens, though the wording varies slightly across those contexts. One notable omission: the video does not include the phrase “So help me God,” which appears in all the standard versions of the oath cited in the report.
The Oath Project
The video is part of what the American Constitution Society is calling “The Oath Project,” which it describes as a nonpartisan effort tied to Constitution Day.
“This Constitution Day, we’re launching The Oath Project — a nonpartisan invitation to record and share an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” the group wrote in its Instagram caption, per Breitbart.
“These participants are adding their voices. We hope you’ll add yours,” the caption continued, urging viewers to “take the oath on your own or with your community, make it your own, and invite others to join you.”
The timing places the launch roughly six weeks before the midterm elections, when political engagement from entertainment figures tends to draw heightened attention from both supporters and critics.
Mixed reactions
Breitbart characterized the video as a “virtue-signaling political PSA” from “left-wing actors,” framing the project as a “cringe” moment. The outlet’s coverage highlights the celebrity involvement and the missing religious affirmation as points of criticism.
Whether the video’s organizers intended the omission is unclear from the public materials. The ACS caption does not address the wording, and the group has not commented publicly on the reaction to the clip.
Celebrity participation in civic campaigns is not new — actors have recorded get-out-the-vote messages, public service announcements and fundraising appeals in cycles past. What distinguishes this effort, at least in its framing, is the direct recitation of constitutional language by figures who hold no public office and take no formal government oath.
The video remains on the ACS Instagram account, and the organization continues to invite the public to record and share their own versions of the oath through the Oath Project.
