Actor and comedian Michael Rapaport is escalating his long-running feud with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, hitting the streets to call for the mayor’s removal from office while confirming he is weighing a run for the job himself.
In comments to Fox News, reported by Breitbart, Rapaport called the Democratic mayor “the most divisive mayor in the history of this city by far” and branded him a “two-bit con man.” He also made personal attacks on the mayor’s wife, calling her an antisemite, a racist and homophobic.
The “Beautiful Girls” actor said he is “absolutely considering running for mayor” and would challenge Mamdani in 2029.
A Campaign He’s Been Teasing for Months
This is not a new idea for Rapaport. Last December, as Mamdani was about to take office, the actor used his podcast to declare he would be running for mayor in a few years.
“I’m not playing games,” he said at the time, explaining that he was looking ahead to 2029. He framed his decision as a direct response to Mamdani’s impending swearing-in, saying he wasn’t going to sit back and wait to see what “this bullshit artist, two-bit, con man” would do.
“I am taking action,” he said, adding that his campaign would probably launch in the middle of 2028. “2029 will be mine.”
The actor also sketched out what he described as his platform, promising he wouldn’t lie or sell voters “all kind of wolf tickets and bullshit.” He said his commitment to the city was genuine and that he was disgusted by what he characterized as Mamdani’s effect on the Big Apple, repeating, “I know you guys think I’m playing. I’m not playing.”
A Familiar Role for the Outspoken Actor
Rapaport, a native New Yorker, has built a substantial following as a social media commentator in addition to his screen career, frequently weighing in on politics and current events. His criticism of Mamdani has become a recurring theme across those platforms, with the mayor’s tenure a regular target of his posts.
Whether the 2029 talk translates into an actual campaign remains to be seen. New York City mayoral elections are still years away, and Rapaport has yet to file any paperwork or hold a formal launch event. But his public posture so far suggests a sustained effort rather than a passing remark.
For now, the actor appears content to keep pressure on City Hall from the outside — and to keep reminding listeners that, in his telling, he’s not bluffing about a future run.
