What the Poll Found
According to the figures cited in the Daily Wire column, the Center for Strategic Politics survey found that 55 percent of Democratic respondents said they would feel positively if Trump “simply croaked in his sleep.” Fifty-nine percent said they would welcome a military coup launched against him. And 32 percent said they wanted him publicly assassinated.
The same post referenced in the column also noted that Vice President Kamala Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg lead the 2028 Democratic field in early polling, and that 57 percent of Democrats want Biden administration officials jailed over Gaza policy.
The article treats the responses as a sign that a substantial bloc of the Democratic base is not merely opposed to Trump politically but hostile to his continued existence. “Itβs beyond ridiculous at this point to think we can make nice with these ghouls when a third of them, and these are just the ones bold enough to go on record for it, yearn to see his blood spilled on a rally stage,” the column states.
A Broader Pattern, According to the Column
The Daily Wire piece argues the polling is not an outlier. It cites a separate report from the same week indicating that 31 percent of college students nationally believe violence is acceptable to stop a campus speech. The column also references a pre-assassination post by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who shared a statistic that 55 percent of left-of-center respondents said murdering Trump could be at least somewhat justified.
It goes on to cite a YouGov poll in which 42 percent of liberals said violence is somewhat justified to achieve political goals, and research from Rutgers University finding that stronger endorsement of gender-affirming ideology correlated with greater willingness to justify political violence.
The column also mentions a finding that 59 percent of Democrats say abortion should always be legal with no restrictions.
Taken together, the author contends, these data points describe a political movement that has normalized the idea of eliminating opponents rather than defeating them at the ballot box.
Comparing Movements
The Daily Wire column draws a direct parallel between the American left and jihadist movements, arguing both operate in a binary framework where disagreement is treated as illegitimacy and where violence against opponents is justified. It points to a statistic that 44 percent of U.S. Muslims hold a favorable view of Hamas, and suggests that sympathy translates into electoral behavior.
The piece also describes what it calls the “watermelon coalition” of Islamist green and communist red, arguing the two movements have more in common than their disparate aesthetics suggest. Both, the column says, preach jihad against those they cast as oppressors.
The column frames the coming midterms as a test of whether what it calls the “lone, sane Republican Party” can withstand the coalition it describes.
The Daily Wire piece closes by warning that a third of that coalition, in its view, does not care whether its political opponents live or die.
