Hunter Biden Says Joe Biden’s Prostate Cancer Has Metastasized to Bones

Hunter Biden Says Joe Biden's Prostate Cancer Has Metastasized to Bones

Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread beyond the initial site and metastasized to his bones, his son Hunter Biden confirmed in a recent interview with BBC Newsnight.

The younger Biden’s comments mark the first public update on his father’s condition since the initial cancer diagnosis was announced in May 2025, just four months after the 83-year-old left the White House as the oldest sitting president in U.S. history.

“The cancer has spread, is metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden told the BBC in the wide-ranging interview published late Friday, according to AFP. “It’s very painful, and it’s very debilitating in many respects, but he’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing…he so believes in this country.”

Hunter Biden appeared visibly emotional at times while discussing his father’s health struggles during the interview. “It’s really, really hard, and it’s really sad to watch,” he added.

Initial Diagnosis and Treatment

The cancer was first detected during a routine physical examination in May 2025, when doctors discovered a small nodule in Biden’s prostate. At the time, a press release from Biden’s personal office characterized the cancer as “a more aggressive form of the disease” while noting it “appears to be hormone-sensitive.”

The hormone-sensitive designation at the time of diagnosis suggested the cancer might respond to hormone therapy treatments commonly used for prostate cancer patients. However, Hunter Biden’s latest comments indicate the disease has progressed despite treatment efforts.

A spokesman for the former president declined to comment on Hunter Biden’s interview when contacted by Reuters on Saturday.

Political Reactions

When Biden’s diagnosis was first made public last year, President Donald Trump and numerous other political figures offered their support. “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Biden, who left office in January 2025 after serving a single term, has largely remained out of the public spotlight since his diagnosis. According to Hunter Biden’s interview, the former president continues to stay engaged despite the physical toll of the disease.

The former president is scheduled to publish a memoir titled “Promise Me, America” following the upcoming midterm elections, though no specific release date has been announced.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men, particularly those over age 65. When the disease metastasizes to bones, it typically indicates an advanced stage that requires more intensive treatment approaches.
