Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported more than 100 Haitian nationals from the United States in a single flight on July 16, including individuals convicted of serious crimes ranging from child sex offenses to violent felonies, according to an announcement from Department of Homeland Security officials on Monday.
The deportation flight included Styv Charles and Timothe Matel, both convicted of sex crimes against children, according to Breitbart, which reported on the DHS announcement. Also removed were Marc James Guerrier Pinard, convicted of armed carjacking; Fito Almanor, convicted of domestic violence and false imprisonment; and Franck Descollines, convicted of felony hit-and-run.
The deportation comes as the Trump administration continues to prioritize the removal of undocumented immigrants with criminal records. DHS spokesperson Lauren Bis emphasized the administration’s enforcement approach in a statement to Breitbart.
“Last week, ICE deported pedophiles, carjackers, drug traffickers and perpetrators of fraud to Haiti,” Bis said. “Criminal illegal aliens have NO place in American communities. Our message to illegal aliens is clear: Leave now. If you don’t, we will find you and deport you.”
Timing Coincides with TPS Expiration
The deportation flight took place against the backdrop of significant changes to immigration policy affecting Haitian nationals. In June, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of President Donald Trump’s plan to terminate Temporary Protected Status for Haitians who had been granted the designation under the previous administration.
According to Breitbart’s reporting, the Supreme Court decision affects at least 450,000 Haitian migrants who had been welcomed to the United States during President Joe Biden’s tenure. TPS benefits for Haitian nationals in the United States are scheduled to expire within days of the DHS announcement.
Temporary Protected Status is a designation that allows nationals of certain countries facing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary conditions to remain in the United States temporarily. The Biden administration had extended and expanded TPS eligibility for Haitian nationals following political instability and natural disasters in Haiti.
Criminal Deportations
While DHS officials highlighted the criminal convictions of several deportees by name, the announcement did not provide detailed information about the full composition of the flight or whether all 100-plus individuals had criminal records. The agency specifically named individuals convicted of the most serious offenses, including child sex crimes and violent felonies.
The deportation represents part of the Trump administration’s broader immigration enforcement strategy, which has emphasized the removal of undocumented immigrants with criminal histories as a top priority. ICE has conducted multiple large-scale deportation operations since Trump returned to office.
