The dispute appears to trace back to a June 2025 incident at an airport. Morissette alleged that Urinov’s bag was seized while she was flying to Spain for a concert because it supposedly contained marijuana and xylazine, a non-opioid animal tranquilizer, according to the lawsuit.
Rather than facing consequences for the alleged contraband, Morissette says Urinov and her attorney weaponized the situation. The filing claims they ‘sent a series of increasingly extortionate letters’ and threatened to ‘file a patently frivolous lawsuit against Morissette in the United Kingdom for unspecified claims if Morissette refused to tell British law enforcement that the alleged drugs were hers.’
In other words, Morissette says Urinov tried to get her to take the blame for drugs found in Urinov’s own bag, and when that didn’t happen, the threats escalated to legal action.
