MINNEAPOLIS — The 35-year-old man accused of shooting six people, including two police officers, inside a Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday was no stranger to law enforcement, according to officials and court records.
The shooting unfolded around 4:50 p.m., prompting a large police response. Interim Police Chief Bill Peterson acknowledged that officers were “familiar” with the alleged gunman, though he did not provide further details at the time.
Victims and Suspect Dead
Two innocent bystanders were killed in the attack, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported. One died at the scene, and a second later succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The alleged shooter is also dead, but authorities have not released specifics about how he died.
Court Records Reveal Prior Threats
Court documents reviewed by the Star Tribune show the suspect was in the middle of an eviction battle tied to a series of threatening incidents at the apartment complex. The eviction notice alleged he assaulted a resident in March and, in June, walked around the property with a firearm while making “multiple statements to other residents” that he “would kill someone.”
The same records indicated he had “a lengthy criminal history,” including at least one prior charge for domestic assault.

KARE11, citing anonymous sources, reported that Wednesday’s shooting “began as a domestic incident.” That detail has not been officially confirmed by police, who have remained tight-lipped about a possible motive.
The attack has renewed scrutiny over how authorities handle individuals with known violent histories and active eviction disputes, particularly cases in which guns and threats are already on record.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect pending notification of next of kin.
