Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) said Saturday that a Democratic House majority would launch corruption investigations into all of President Donald Trump’s adult children, not just the president himself. The comments came during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Alex Witt Reports,” where Ansari outlined what she described as a broad oversight agenda targeting the Trump family’s financial dealings.
Asked where Democrats should begin if they win control of the House in November, Ansari said the scope of alleged misconduct is so extensive that the list of targets will be long. She emphasized that the party’s focus should be on what she called “vast corruption,” zeroing in on the president’s children as key figures.
“We need to look at the Trump family, all, not only Donald Trump himself, but all of the Trump children who are full grown adults, whether it’s Eric Trump, Don Jr., Barron Trump,” Ansari said. She alleged that the children have used their father’s presidency to enrich themselves, citing specific claims about Don Jr. and Barron.
Ansari accused Don Jr. of leveraging defense contracts he allegedly forced the government to engage in, and pointed to Barron Trump’s involvement in cryptocurrency ventures and his friendship with the Tate brothers — a reference to online personalities who have faced legal troubles.
The interview comes amid reports that House Oversight and Judiciary Committee leaders Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin are preparing to subpoena senior Trump officials and family members for a range of investigations into alleged misdeeds. Ansari’s remarks align with those reported plans, though she did not provide specific legislative or investigative details.
Ansari, a first-term Democrat from Arizona, has been vocal in her criticism of the Trump administration. Her comments are likely to draw sharp reactions from Republicans, who have dismissed Democratic oversight efforts as politically motivated harassment.
The midterm elections are less than two months away, and control of both chambers of Congress is at stake. Democrats need to flip a net of several seats to regain the House majority, which would give them subpoena power and the ability to set the agenda for committees.
Political analysts note that aggressive oversight of the executive branch is a standard tool for opposition parties when they gain control of Congress. The scope of any investigation, however, would depend on the political climate and the willingness of moderate Democrats to support such measures.
Ansari’s specific mention of Barron Trump — who is a private citizen and has not been charged with any wrongdoing — is notable, as targeting a president’s youngest son could be seen as politically risky. Republicans may use such statements to argue that Democrats are overreaching.
Neither the White House nor representatives for the Trump family immediately responded to requests for comment on Ansari’s remarks.
