President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance closed out the Republicans’ midterm convention in Dallas on Thursday night, delivering back-to-back speeches to a capacity crowd that organizers described as a sold-out finale. According to Breitbart News, the event drew historic online viewership the night before, with more than 34 million impressions on TikTok alone and tens of millions more across X and Facebook.
Vance opened the closing session by thanking attendees for their patriotism and vowing that the administration would not allow the country to move backward. Reflecting on the political mood before the 2024 election, he described a nation worn down by factory closures, overdose deaths, rising costs, and what he characterized as unchecked cartel activity.
A pitch for November
The vice president argued that the current administration has already begun reversing course, pointing to what he said were falling wages, a 20 percent rise in prices, and a surge of illegal immigration during the previous administration. He said the Democratic record “stands for itself” and accused the opposition of doubling down on extreme positions rather than admitting error.
Vance also went after specific Democratic candidates, mocking a Texas contender over transgender issues and criticizing Democrats in Denver over comments about the September 11 attacks. He warned that those candidates, when not pushing to repeal the Second Amendment, would label critics of Sharia law as white supremacists. The line that drew the loudest applause came when he suggested such candidates needed “a one-way ticket to a mental hospital” rather than a seat in Washington.
Trump takes the stage
Trump entered to Lee Greenwood’s rendition of “God Bless the USA,” telling the crowd that the American people had given him a mandate to save the country and that he had delivered on every promise in 19 months. He cited prescription drug prices falling from the highest in the world to the lowest, a stock market that has set 80 all-time record highs, and record employment numbers.
The president highlighted federal actions terminating diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates, banning transgender ideology and critical race theory in schools, and ending what he called the “transgender mutilation of our beautiful children.” He drew sustained applause with a pledge that men would not play in women’s sports, noting court victories on the issue.
Warning of what a Democratic victory would bring, Trump claimed his opponents plan to confiscate wealth, tax Social Security, eliminate no-tax-on-tips and no-tax-on-overtime provisions, defund police, extend voting rights and welfare to 25 million illegal aliens, and destroy Texas oil and gas. He also said they would allow men in women’s sports and set loose criminals to rob, rape, and kill.
‘Trump dividend’ teased
The president previewed a so-called “Trump dividend” if Republicans prevail, saying it would deliver $5,000 for every adult citizen. He argued the country’s revenue intake, which he described as trillions of dollars, made such a payout possible. “It’s about time we take care of our adults,” Trump said.
He urged the audience to bring their families to the polls on November 3 and to help Republicans win across the country, calling on them to reject what he repeatedly labeled communist and radical left lunatics who want to destroy the nation.
The White House praised the event’s turnout. “President Trump is the ultimate turnout driver for the MAGA base, and today’s historic, sold-out crowd proved it,” White House spokeswoman Allison Schuster told Breitbart News. She contrasted the administration’s agenda of lower taxes, safer streets, and secure borders with what she described as Democratic failures on taxes, crime, and law enforcement funding.
Earlier in the day, Trump posted on Truth Social that the convention’s first day was a “major, sold-out hit” that exceeded expectations and even outperformed the opening night of the NFL’s regular season in viewership. The two-night gathering in Dallas served as a closing argument ahead of the November midterms, with the party’s top two figures framing the election as a choice between continued economic gains and a return to prior policies.
