Venezuelan Fugitive on Texas DPS Most Wanted List Arrested in Cedar Park for Alleged Child Sexual Assault

A Venezuelan national wanted on charges of sexually assaulting a child and stalking was arrested in Cedar Park, Texas, after a tip led police to his location, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division. Fermin Alejandro Calles Garcia, 24, had been listed on the state’s 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant List.

Cedar Park police received the tip on September 5 and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by Calles Garcia. He was taken into custody without incident. The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort between local police and DPS special agents.

According to Breitbart Texas, which first reported the arrest, the warrant for Calles Garcia was issued in March 2025 by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin. He faces three charges: Sexual Assault of a Child, Stalking, and Misdemeanor Assault Causing Bodily Injury. The exact details of the allegations were not released.

A tip and a reward

The tip that led to Calles Garcia’s capture came through the Texas DPS 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant List, a program that highlights fugitives who are in the country illegally and have been charged with or convicted of violent crimes. A $3,000 reward had been offered for information leading to his arrest, and officials confirmed it will be paid to the anonymous tipster.

Cedar Park, a suburb north of Austin, has seen its share of high-profile immigration-related arrests in recent years, but this case stands out because of the severity of the charges and the fact that Calles Garcia was already on the state’s most-wanted list.

Nine others still at large

Calles Garcia’s arrest leaves nine other individuals on the 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant List still at large. According to DPS, those fugitives are wanted for crimes including murder, indecency with a child by contact, sexual assault of a child, aggravated sexual assault of a child, continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, failure to comply with the sex offender registration program, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and indecent exposure to a minor (two individuals).

Rewards of up to $7,500 are in place for information leading to the arrest of the remaining fugitives. DPS encourages anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that tips can be submitted anonymously.

The arrest highlights ongoing tensions over immigration enforcement in Texas, where state officials have increasingly publicized arrests of undocumented immigrants with criminal histories. The 10 Most Wanted list was created as part of that effort, and DPS regularly updates it with new fugitives.

Calles Garcia is currently being held in the Travis County Jail. His immigration status will likely be handled by federal authorities following the resolution of his criminal case. No court date has been announced.
