A left-wing Instagram account with roughly 40,000 followers marked the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination by posting a lengthy attack on the Turning Point USA founder, according to Breitbart News. The account, known as “The Culture Beat,” opened its post with a vulgar dismissal of Kirk and closed by writing, “Thanks for the hate, rest in piss Charlie.”
Kirk was killed on September 11, 2025, while taking questions from a student at Utah Valley University. Breitbart described him as a “free speech martyr” who died “while trying to have an open and respectful dialogue with a student.” Thursday marked one year since the shooting.
An Anniversary Post Built on Grievance
The Culture Beat’s post paired its opening insult with alleged quotes from Kirk about affirmative action, then pivoted to a broader argument about the conservative media ecosystem it claims Kirk and Turning Point USA helped build.
“The right-wing media ecosystem that Charlie Kirk and TPUSA were founding members of radicalized an entire generation of young men,” the account wrote in its caption.
Much of the post focused on Kirk’s campus debating videos, which circulated widely online. The account described a deliberate strategy: Turning Point USA would “put Kirk in front of college students, selectively film him ‘dismantling’ their arguments, and package the encounters with titles like ‘Charlie Kirk ANNIHILATES’ or ‘Liberal Student Can’t Answer Charlie Kirk’s Simple Question.'”
The account complained that the resulting clips were “consumed outside the campus” and spread across YouTube, TikTok, and X, where a wider audience encountered conservative arguments. It characterized Turning Point USA as “an entry point into a much larger ecosystem.”
From there the post moved to a so-called “manosphere” and accused the organization of harboring what it called “resentment toward women, immigrants, LGBTQ people, and racial minorities.” It closed with a hedged but damning verdict: “Charlie Kirk and TPUSA may not be personally responsible for radicalizing people, but they were well aware of the media ecosystem they were helping grow, and for that they shouldn’t be remembered kindly.”
A Memorial at the Scene of the Killing
The post landed on the same day Turning Point USA returned to Utah Valley University to host a memorial event titled “Freedom Built to Last,” held in honor of Kirk on the campus where he was murdered.
Breitbart reported that social media was “flooded with a continuous outpouring of support for Kirk” throughout Thursday as supporters marked the anniversary.
The outlet framed the Culture Beat post as part of a pattern of “violent rhetoric against conservatives that many believe was the catalyst for Kirk’s assassination.” That characterization reflects a broader argument on the right that hostile online commentary about Kirk and other conservative figures contributed to the climate surrounding his death.
