“Everybody knows the Crooked Joe Biden FBI didn’t do what they should have with respect to the Lunatic who shot me in Butler, PA,” Trump said. “By the time I got into Office, on January 20th, most of the information was missing, altered, corrupted, or gone. New info was just found! Why wasn’t it seen long ago?”
Trump went on to describe the shooting as part of a “Democrat Plot, to get me out of the Election, that failed,” and singled out Wray personally, calling him a “Dirty Cop” who should “pay a price for the way he handled this assassination attempt, and certainly for the things he said.” He closed the statement with his standard sign-off: “GOD BLESS AMERICA — MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The president’s statement did not specify what the newly discovered information was, nor did it detail which specific records he believes were altered or destroyed. The White House did not immediately release additional documentation.
Where the Criticism Came From
Trump’s outburst followed new reporting that an anonymous donor paid for the cremation of Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old gunman who climbed onto the roof of the AGR building near the Butler Farm Show grounds and fired at the former president during a campaign rally. The revelation about who funded Crooks’ cremation has renewed scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the attack, which remains one of the most significant security failures in modern Secret Service history.

The flights occurred between approximately 3:50 and 4:05 p.m. — during a window when the Secret Service was experiencing connectivity issues, according to The Gateway Pundit.
A photograph of Crooks was taken shortly before he scaled the building, and at 5:14 p.m. — roughly one hour before the shooting — a member of the Beaver County sniper team photographed him checking his cell phone. Crooks was later spotted by local law enforcement inside the building, but the response was slow and fragmented, with officers unable to reach him before he took his position on the roof.
Wray’s Testimony and the Political Fallout
Wray, who was appointed FBI director by Trump in 2017 and served until his resignation in December 2024, testified before Congress multiple times about the investigation. His public statements about the bureau’s findings often drew sharp criticism from Trump’s allies, who accused the FBI of withholding information or downplaying leads that pointed toward a broader conspiracy.
The agency has consistently maintained that Crooks was a lone actor motivated by a mix of personal grievances and a desire for notoriety, and that he had conducted online searches about both Trump and President Joe Biden before settling on the Butler rally as his target.
