Three Dead in Twin Falls In-N-Out Shooting, Suspect Also Deceased

Three people were killed and at least two others injured Saturday afternoon when a gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, according to local police.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time in a busy commercial district that includes restaurants and a large movie theater, Twin Falls Police Chief Josh Hicks said at a news conference.

“The suspected shooter in this incident is deceased,” Hicks told reporters, adding that authorities “believe the threat to the community is over.”

It remains unclear whether the death toll of three includes the shooter himself. Police have not yet released the identities of any victims as next-of-kin notifications are still underway.

Twin Falls spokesperson Josh Palmer said the number of wounded is expected to rise as authorities continue processing the scene and gathering information about those affected by the violence.

Videos Show Armed Response

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show a male individual with a rifle firing in the direction of the In-N-Out location from what looked like a nearby parking lot. Additional footage purportedly showed an armed citizen returning fire, though police have not confirmed details about how the shooter was killed or whether any civilians engaged the suspect.

The Twin Falls Police Department issued an alert earlier in the day urging residents and visitors to stay away from the area. “Our department is responding to an active shooter incident in the area of In-N-Out,” the department said. “We are asking all residents and visitors to avoid the area so officers and first responders can work safely.”

A shelter-in-place order was implemented for the surrounding area as law enforcement and emergency responders converged on the scene. Several roads leading into the shopping district were temporarily closed while police worked to secure the location and ensure no ongoing danger remained.

Motive Under Investigation

Chief Hicks said the shooter’s motive and identity are still under active investigation. Authorities have not released information about what may have prompted the attack or whether the suspect had any connection to the restaurant or its patrons.

Idaho Governor Brad Little responded to the incident on social media, calling on residents to keep the Twin Falls community in their prayers.

“Idahoans, join me in keeping the Twin Falls community in your prayers as law enforcement and first responders respond to an active shooter situation near In-N-Out,” Little wrote on X. “Please avoid the area and follow directions from law enforcement as they work to keep everyone safe.”

Company Responds

In-N-Out issued a statement Saturday expressing grief over the loss of life and extending condolences to those affected by the shooting.

“We are heartbroken,” said Denny Warnick, the company’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our prayers go out to our Customers, our Associates, and all of their families. We are working with the Twin Falls Police Department to assist in the ongoing investigation.”

The incident marks a violent disruption in what is typically a quiet shopping area in the southern Idaho city of approximately 50,000 residents. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the deadly attack and determine whether any warning signs were missed.

Police have not indicated when additional information about the victims or the suspect will be released to the public.
