Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) brought a characteristically blunt message to late-night television on Monday, telling guest host Anthony Anderson on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is âdead,â that Congress is full of âmurderersâ and ârapists,â and that Americans who want to see âsome arrestsâ should vote for Democrats in the midterms.
During the appearance, Anderson played a game with Crockett, asking whether McConnell was âdead or alive? Or somewhere in between?â Crockett didnât hesitate, responding, âSo my theory is that like maybe even half of the Senate is already dead any way. Iâm just saying. So, Iâm going with dead.â
The Texas Democrat, a former defense attorney, was then asked whether she had met more crooks in her legal career or in Congress. âDefinitely Congress. Okay. Like no question about it,â she replied, adding, âAnd Iâve dealt with like murderers, you know, child rapists, and clearly we got a lot we got a lot of them.â
Anderson then gave Crockett nearly three minutes to make her case for why the midterm elections matter, a slot she used to criticize Republicans, tout Democratic priorities, and urge viewers to head to the polls. She dismissed Republican talking points as âthe reflecting pool and all that nonsense,â and said the American people are âtired and theyâre just looking for someone thatâs going to focus on them.â
âMake sure that education is a real possibility for their kiddos. Make sure that housing is affordable and something that you donât have to, you know, turn 50 years old before you can buy your first home, right? And that jobs are available and paying well as well as protecting workers,â Crockett said.
She framed the midterms as a chance to stop âharm from being inflictedâ and to launch investigationsâspecifically into the Epstein filesâif voters send more Democrats to Washington. âSo, these midterms matter because if you want to stop some of the harm from being inflicted, itâs going to take at least having a house and a senate that can fight against that,â she said. âBut if you want to start some investigations and actually see some arrest, maybe or at least us subpoenaing the information that we need as it relates to the Epstein files or anything else, right, you need to vote for a Democrat.â
Crockett also called President Donald Trump a âscammerâ during the segment, according to Breitbartâs report. Asked about her post-political plans, she floated a possible reality TV show or a return to the courtroom, but said she will continue to use her political action committee to help select Democratic candidates.
The appearance continues Crockettâs pattern of outspoken commentary that has made her a rising Democratic figure, particularly among younger and more progressive voters. Her sharp rhetoric has often drawn criticism from Republicans, who have accused her of inflammatory language, while her supporters see her as a refreshingly direct voice willing to take on the establishment.
This isnât the first time Crockett has made headlines for provocative statements about her colleagues or political rivals. She has previously clashed with Republican figures on social media and in committee hearings, and her fiery speeches have gone viral multiple times.
Anderson, who was filling in as guest host for Jimmy Kimmel, kept the tone light but didnât shy away from the politically charged topics. Crockettâs appearance comes as Democrats are gearing up for a challenging midterm cycle, with control of both chambers of Congress at stake.
Her comments about McConnell and the Senate are likely to fuel further debate, especially as questions about the health and longevity of several senior senatorsâincluding McConnell, who is 84âhave become a recurring topic in Washington and conservative media.
Breitbart, which first reported on the segment, noted that Crockettâs remarks were part of a larger pitch to viewers to support Democratic candidates in the upcoming elections. The outletâs report didnât include a response from McConnellâs office or from the White House at the time of publication.
Crockettâs appearance also touched on broader themes of economic anxiety and institutional distrust, with the congresswoman arguing that ordinary Americans are struggling with housing costs, education, and wagesâissues she said Democrats are better positioned to address.
The segment closed with Crockett keeping the door open to life after politics, saying she might pursue a reality TV career or return to practicing law. But for now, she made clear her focus is on the midtermsâand on pushing for the kind of accountability she says only a Democratic majority can deliver.
As the election season intensifies, statements like Crockettâs are likely to become more common, as both parties seek to energize their bases. Whether her blunt style will help or hurt Democrats remains to be seen, but thereâs no question it gets attention.
