President Trump insists the Iran war will conclude on his terms, acknowledging midterm losses but standing by his decision to prevent a nuclear Iran.

Trump Defends Iran War, Says It Will End 'Whenever I Want It To'

President Donald Trump doubled down on his administration’s military engagement with Iran during a White House press conference Wednesday, declaring the conflict would end only when he decides. The remarks came as he faced questions for the first time since Republicans suffered significant losses in the midterm elections, which some allies have attributed to voter backlash over the war.

‘Whenever I Want It To’

Pressed by reporters on a timeline for withdrawing U.S. forces, Trump responded bluntly: “Whenever I want it to, but it’s gotta be done right, and we’re never going to let them have a nuclear weapon.” The president spoke at the White House ballroom construction site, where crews had just installed the final steel beam.

Midterm Fallout

Trump conceded that Vice President JD Vance may be correct in blaming the war for the GOP’s poor election performance. “Well, I think it’s largely true, because it drove the gasoline up a little bit short-term,” he said. “But at the same time, if I had to do it again, I’d have to do it again.”

When asked whether preventing a nuclear Iran justified losing control of the Senate, Trump replied without hesitation: “I do. You have no choice.” He added that he had anticipated steeper oil price increases from the conflict, but maintained that military action remained unavoidable.

Voter Concerns

Exit polling data from CNN appears to support the political impact of both the war and resulting economic pressures. Nearly 90% of respondents expressed concern about gas prices, while 74% said the Iran conflict played a major or crucial role in their voting decisions.

The president’s uncompromising stance sets the stage for continued tensions with congressional Democrats, who will take control of the Senate in January. Meanwhile, administration officials have given no indication of imminent de-escalation with Tehran.
