Business Groups Push for Mass Amnesty After Democrats’ Midterm Sweep

Corporate interests are pressuring Congress to pass immigration reforms, including amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants, following Democratic victories in the 2026 midterms.

Business Groups Push for Mass Amnesty After Democrats' Midterm Sweep

Business leaders are ramping up calls for Congress to pass sweeping immigration reforms, including a mass amnesty program, after Democrats secured control of both the House and Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

The American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC), a corporate-backed advocacy group, issued a statement Wednesday urging lawmakers to prioritize legislation that would grant legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants. The group specifically named Rep. Maria Salazar’s (R-FL) DIGNIDAD Act and the American Dream and Promise Act as key priorities.

Corporate Lobbying Intensifies

ABIC CEO Rebecca Shi framed the election results as a voter mandate for immigration reform, claiming that Republican losses in Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia stemmed from backlash against strict enforcement policies. “Voters are demanding common-sense solutions to lower costs and secure legal pathways for Dreamers, TPS holders, and long-term workers,” Shi said.

The coalition is pushing for immediate action during the lame-duck session, including passage of measures that would provide protections for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipients and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) beneficiaries. They’re also advocating for the State-Sponsored Visa Pilot Program Act and the SAWA bill.

Worksite Raids Under Fire

Business interests are simultaneously pressuring the Trump administration to halt immigration enforcement at job sites. Kansas Livestock Association CEO Matt Teagarden argued that workplace raids exacerbate labor shortages and drive up consumer prices. “America cannot solve severe workforce shortages and the resulting high prices by deporting long-term, hard-working immigrants,” Teagarden said.

The push comes despite electoral setbacks for several Republican supporters of the DIGNIDAD Act. Multiple co-sponsors lost re-election bids, including Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Zach Nunn (R-IA). Meanwhile, the Senate gained two new immigration hardliners with the elections of Andy Barr in Kentucky and Barry Moore in Alabama.

As the new Congress prepares to take office in January, the battle over immigration policy appears set to intensify, with business interests now positioned as a major force advocating for reform.
