Bodycam Video Shows Officers Pointing Tasers at Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers During Nightclub Arrest

Newly surfaced bodycam footage shows police officers pointing tasers at multiple WNBA players during a March arrest outside a nightclub, an incident that led to charges against Dallas Wings star Arike Ogunbowale that were later dismissed.

The video, obtained and published by The New York Post, captures the chaotic scene as officers confronted Ogunbowale, who had been accused of punching club staff. According to Mediaite, tensions escalated quickly, with officers threatening Ogunbowale and several of her teammates—including rising star Paige Bueckers—with tasers.

The arrest came just hours after Ogunbowale and her Mist BC teammates had won the championship in Unrivaled, the 3×3 professional league. What should have been a night of celebration instead ended with Ogunbowale in handcuffs, charged with battery. She was released after posting $1,000 bail, and the charges were dismissed in May.

A Tense Confrontation Caught on Camera

The footage offers a raw look at the moments outside the club, where Ogunbowale, Bueckers, and others—including fellow WNBA players Jackie Young and DiJonai Carrington, as well as Unrivaled host Maria Clifton—were gathered as officers moved in.

At one point, an arresting officer brandished his taser and ordered the crowd to “back up.” Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick by the Wings in 2025, was seen putting her arm around Ogunbowale and repeatedly telling the officer that the group could take care of her. In a particularly striking moment, the taser was held near Bueckers’ face.

The group eventually released Ogunbowale to the officers, but the situation remained heated. Clifton could later be heard shouting in the video, “Stop it. Do not put handcuffs on her. Are you fucking kidding me? She’s a champion.”

Charges Dropped, Attorney Speaks Out

Mitch Schuster, an attorney for Ogunbowale, told ESPN in May that the State Attorney’s Office had elected not to pursue the case.

“We are pleased that the State Attorney’s Office has exercised its discretion and elected not to move forward with this matter,” Schuster said at the time. “Ms. Ogunbowale is a person of outstanding character, and we are excited that these charges have been dismissed so she can resume her focus on her professional career.”

The release of the bodycam footage more than six months after the incident is likely to renew scrutiny of how police handled the confrontation with the players. While Ogunbowale has put the legal matter behind her, the video’s vivid images—officers with tasers drawn, teammates pleading, and a champion in handcuffs—are sure to fuel further debate about the arrest and its aftermath.
