Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) on Monday accused Republican lawmakers of abandoning their oversight duties as President Donald Trump descends into what she called an ‘incoherent’ and ‘unhinged’ state, urging the GOP to step in before it’s too late.
During an appearance on CNN’s ‘News Central,’ Dean, a Democrat who has repeatedly tangled with the White House, said the real concern isn’t just Trump’s behaviorâit’s the silent acceptance of it by his own party. ‘I couldn’t disagree more with the Republicans who are sitting back as the president, so incoherently and so grotesquely, corruptly pursues what he’s pursuing,’ she said, according to the network.
Dean specifically pointed to Trump’s handling of the Iran war, which she claimed he ‘foolishly got into at Mr. Netanyahu’s behest.’ Instead of focusing on a way out of that conflict, Dean argued, the president is obsessed with appearancesâ’rubble and ruin and projects and affixing more gold to his White House office.’
‘The president is in a terrible place,’ Dean said. ‘I’ve spoken multiple times with the speaker to say, you must come around him and say that what he is doing is incoherent.’
The congresswoman did not specify which speaker she had contacted or when those conversations took place, but her comments reflect a growing frustration among Democratsâand some Republicansâover Trump’s recent conduct amid the ongoing war and domestic controversies.

Dean also highlighted a social media post from Trump that she said undermines any claim to stable leadership. ‘I don’t know if you saw the post this last week where he puts up a poster of himself as the greatest president, then underneath he categorizes greats, according to him, he’s the only greatest, in the greats are Lincoln, Washington, Andrew Jackson and some others,’ she recounted.
She noted that Trump then listed ‘failures’ he’s ‘very jealous of’âincluding former Presidents Biden and Obama. For Dean, the episode was proof positive that the president is not acting rationally. ‘The president is unhinged, and the Republicans are what we should be worried about,’ she said. ‘Why are they following him so lemming like?’
Dean’s remarks come as Trump faces mounting criticism over his decision-making in the Middle East, with some lawmakers in both parties questioning the strategy of the Iran conflict. The White House has defended the president’s approach, though it did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Dean’s statements.
