Former CNN anchor Don Lemon made controversial comments during a podcast appearance, comparing the Make America Great Again movement to Nazi Germany while simultaneously acknowledging fundamental differences between the two.
Speaking on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast with hosts Karman Wong and Travis Dhanraj, Lemon described MAGA as “the closest thing to the modern version of the Nazi Party,” adding it was “America’s version” of such a movement, though he qualified his statement by noting it was “without the Holocaust and all that stuff.”
According to The Daily Wire, which reported on the interview, Lemon explicitly acknowledged that President Donald Trump was not orchestrating a genocide comparable to Nazi Germany’s atrocities. However, he maintained that the MAGA movement represented the “closest” parallel anyone had witnessed to that historical period.

During the podcast discussion, Lemon offered his analysis of why Trump supporters maintain their political allegiance. He suggested that unlike what he characterized as “intelligent people or logical people” who change their minds when presented with negative or contrary information, Trump voters were driven by different motivations.
Lemon argued that economic concerns were not the primary factor driving Trump’s support base. Instead, he claimed voters were motivated by “white supremacy,” suggesting they had been persuaded to blame demographic groups for their personal challenges.
“They’re afraid of, they’ve been co-opted by many people in the Republican Party and Donald Trump to think that their failures are due to something else: the other, the black person, the woman, the Latino, the immigrant, the migrant,” Lemon said during the interview. “That person is taking your job. That person is the reason that you don’t have the financial or career success that you think you should have.”
Drawing Historical Parallels
The former cable news host drew a comparison to tactics employed by Adolf Hitler, suggesting the Trump administration was using a similar strategy to the one Hitler used when attempting to convince Germans that Jewish people were responsible for their problems.
When asked by co-host Dhanraj whether he believed the Trump administration had gone “off the rails,” Lemon interrupted to sharpen his criticism further.
“It’s not off the rails. We’ve careened into fascism. The president is a fascist,” Lemon stated, according to the report.
