Elliot Page Goes Partially Nude for New York Magazine’s First ‘Men’s Style’ Issue

The transgender actor appears on the cover and in a feature about New York City's bathhouse scene, as the magazine launches its inaugural men's fashion and health special issue.

Elliot Page Goes Partially Nude for New York Magazine's First 'Men's Style' Issue

Elliot Page, the transgender actor known for roles in Juno, The Umbrella Academy, and the upcoming Odyssey, is featured partially nude on the cover of New York Magazine’s first-ever “Men’s Style” issue, according to Breitbart News.

The special issue, which hit newsstands this week, carries the subtitle “Men’s Style: A Special Issue about Putting Clothes on and Taking Them Off Again.” The magazine’s editors note that while New York Magazine has covered men’s fashion for decades — citing a 1971 piece asking whether men would wear high heels and a 1996 review of male supermodels — it had never before devoted an entire issue to men’s fashion and health.

The editors add that the photographs in the issue show male stars wearing “some fashion, but hardly any.”

A Bathhouse Feature and a Candid Quote

Page also appears in a story chronicling the current bathhouse scene in New York City. A photo of Page at a bathhouse is accompanied by a blurb in which the actor describes the appeal of the experience. “I went to a bathhouse recently,” Page says in the issue. “I’ve only in the past couple of years been like, Yeah, that sounds nice, to like go somewhere and sit around in your body like that.”

Page’s comments continue into a more personal register, touching on singing in the shower and the songs that get stuck in their head. The actor mentions belting out “Do you believe in life after love?” — a reference to Cher’s hit “Believe” — as well as a song from The Sound of Music, a film Page admits to never having seen. “I can’t explain it,” Page says of the shower-singing habit.

Page came out as transgender in late 2020 and has since been open about the physical and emotional aspects of transition. In May 2021, Page shared a post-operative upper-body nude photo on Instagram, captioned “Trans bb’s first swim trunks,” which showed surgical scars from chest reconstruction. The post drew supportive responses from celebrities including Miley Cyrus, who called the photo “hot,” and actress Ilana Glazer, who called Page a “handsome boi.”

Background and Reaction

Page’s appearance in the issue marks another high-profile moment for the actor, who has become one of the most visible transgender figures in Hollywood. The Odyssey, in which Page is set to appear, is among the actor’s upcoming projects.

The inaugural “Men’s Style” issue represents a new venture for New York Magazine, which has long been known for its cultural coverage but had not previously dedicated a full special issue to men’s fashion and health. The magazine’s decision to feature Page partially nude on the cover — and to include the bathhouse feature — is likely to draw both praise and criticism, as debates over transgender visibility and media representation continue to simmer in the cultural and political arenas.

Breitbart News reported on the issue and Page’s comments. The magazine has not yet released circulation figures for the inaugural issue.

Representatives for Page did not immediately respond to requests for comment on this story, and New York Magazine declined to comment on the record regarding the issue’s reception.
