Berlin’s local elections on Sunday produced a striking result: The Left, the party descended from East Germany’s ruling communists, finished as the strongest force in the capital with 25 percent of the vote, according to the Gateway Pundit. What followed at the party’s victory celebration may prove just as consequential.

A victory party that drew attention
At the celebration, the party was joined by Issa Remmo, identified by the Gateway Pundit as the head of Berlin’s notorious Lebanese Remmo criminal clan, and Ibrahim Ibrahim, who leads the United Palestinian National Committee, which the outlet describes as a front organization for Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Footage circulated on social media, including a post from the account Visegrád 24, showing Ferat Koçak, a Left party member of the German Bundestag, with Ibrahim at the election night event.
The Left initially denied that Issa Remmo had been invited. Mayoral candidate Elif Eralp told ZDF that Remmo “was not invited and was sent away again,” adding that the party has “nothing to do with the mob – we combat it.”
That account was called into question when Issa Remmo’s son Firas published a chat he said he had with Koçak, described by the Gateway Pundit as one of The Left’s most radical members and a sitting Bundestag representative. In the exchange, Koçak allegedly wrote: “Greetings and props to your father. When are you in your office so I can come by?”
The same thread reportedly showed Koçak urging the younger Remmo to circulate a political speech critical of what it called the “hysterical debate” over criminal Arab clans. “Please ask all your people to share,” Koçak wrote, to which Firas Remmo replied, “Sure, Bro.”
Under his post, Firas Remmo struck a triumphal tone. “We are part of something truly great,” he wrote, according to the Gateway Pundit. “We stand together, we stick together, and we fight together for our goals. We are winners. We are doers. We are a team. And together we will accomplish things that would never be possible alone.”
The broader political picture
The Berlin result did not happen in isolation. The Gateway Pundit reports that voters across Germany are abandoning the legacy parties, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democrats, splitting toward both the left and right. In the Baltic state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the right-wing Alternative for Germany, or AfD, finished first. Even in left-leaning Berlin, AfD increased its vote share to 16 percent.
The rise of The Left in the capital is a particular irritant for Merz’s coalition, which the outlet describes as a “RINO government” in continued decline. The party’s pledges to defund the police and take on large real estate firms found traction with younger voters, especially women, enough to place it ahead of the field.
What happens next depends on whether The Left can translate its plurality into a governing coalition with other left-wing parties. The Gateway Pundit notes that the party will now attempt exactly that.
Meanwhile, the episode at the victory party has raised questions that The Left has yet to fully answer. The party’s initial explanation — that it neither invited nor wanted the Remmo clan — was undercut, in the Gateway Pundit’s telling, by the released chat messages between a sitting Left Bundestag member and the clan leader’s son.
The outlet’s own conclusion was blunt: it suggested that the Lebanese mob and Hamas may soon be running Berlin, if they are not already. That is the outlet’s characterization of the situation, not a formal finding by any German authority.
For now, Berlin’s election result stands: The Left is the strongest party in the capital. How it governs, and with whom, remains to be seen.
