Former Trump national security adviser Keith Kellogg said Thursday that Iran continues to receive weapons from China, but he downplayed the Islamic Republic’s military capabilities, asserting that Tehran has little left to threaten U.S. forces or allies.
Appearing on the Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow,” Kellogg addressed questions about Iran’s arsenal and the role of external backers, including China, Russia, and North Korea, amid ongoing U.S. efforts to isolate the regime.
China Still Supplying Iran, Kellogg Says
Asked by guest host David Asman whether China is still supplying weapons to Iran, Kellogg responded affirmatively: “Well, they are being supplied by China.”
He noted that the topic is expected to be part of discussions between President Xi Jinping and President Trump. “President Xi and President Trump are going to have — talking about that,” Kellogg said, suggesting the issue is on the bilateral agenda.
Beyond China, Kellogg pointed to other actors Tehran relies on: “They do have their regular people they rely on, be it the Russians or be it the North Koreans or be it the Chinese as well.”
‘They Don’t Have Anything Really Left’
Despite the continued flow of arms, Kellogg struck a confident tone about Iran’s military strength. “Frankly, when you look at kinetic strikes and the military, they don’t have anything really left,” he said.
He acknowledged that Iran might launch “an occasional ballistic missile” or “occasional drones,” but he dismissed these as a genuine threat: “It’s not something that I would really be concerned about. Our military will handle it quite well.”
Kellogg framed the situation as one that favors continued U.S. pressure. “We’re going to keep isolating them as well, and they won’t have, really, the munitions to react well,” he said, adding: “We just need to kind of sit back and let this economic pressure work.”
His comments come as the U.S. maintains a policy of economic sanctions and military deterrence aimed at curbing Iran’s regional influence and weapons programs.
Asman had earlier raised the role of “enablers” like the UAE in financing Iran’s activities, before turning to the question of Chinese arms supplies.
Kellogg, a retired Army general, served as national security adviser in the Trump administration and later as special envoy for Ukraine. His remarks on Fox Business were reported by Breitbart News.
