Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) said Attorney General Todd Blanche should face impeachment, accusing him of failing to release the Epstein files required under a law Khanna helped pass and of allowing politics to influence federal prosecutions.
Khanna made the comments Friday during an appearance on MS NOW’s “All In,” where he outlined what he said would be an aggressive oversight agenda if Democrats take back the House, according to remarks flagged by Breitbart.
‘Thin ice’
“Todd Blanche already is on thin ice,” Khanna said. “He is the one who has broken the law by not releasing the Epstein files — the law Thomas Massie and I passed.”
The California congressman claimed that only half of the records have been released and that Blanche has refused to produce the rest, even after federal judges ordered him to do so. He also said the attorney general has not prosecuted a single person tied to the Epstein files.
Khanna pointed to reporting that the Department of Justice has been using politics as a basis for prosecution, calling it “the biggest violation of everything America stands for.” He cited Blanche’s own statements about consulting the president on criminal cases, arguing that such consultation is appropriate for policy but not for deciding whom to prosecute.
“So, absolutely, we need to look at impeachment,” Khanna said. “We need to look at holding him accountable.”
Oversight targets
Khanna also laid out a broader list of witnesses and subjects he said Democrats intend to bring before Congress, crediting Rep. Robert Garcia with leading that effort. He said DOGE, Elon Musk, people involved in what he called “these ICE horrific killings,” and those responsible for “rogue prosecutions” would all be summoned before the committee.
“We will have accountability in America,” Khanna said. “That’s what November’s election is about.”
The comments come as Democrats sharpen their messaging ahead of the midterms, framing oversight as a central campaign promise. Whether an impeachment push against Blanche gains traction will depend in large part on whether Democrats win control of the House and can set the committee agenda.
Khanna’s remarks add to a growing list of confrontations between congressional Democrats and the Justice Department, with the Epstein files and the department’s prosecutorial decisions emerging as key flashpoints.
