First Lady Melania Trump wore a military-inspired Ralph Lauren look to host Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for tea in the Red Room of the White House on Sept. 25, 2026, according to Breitbart News.
For the occasion, Mrs. Trump selected the Annabeth Grain de Poudre jacket in Icon Navy, paired with matching flared trousers. The jacket retails for $1,950. She completed the outfit with a matching navy leather belt and navy suede Manolo Blahnik stilettos, which retail for $895.
The tea served as a send-off for the Chinese leader, who was wrapping up a three-day state visit to Washington. The day’s events moved from the White House to the National Archives, where the two presidents and their wives toured records significant to the U.S.-China relationship throughout history.
A Day of Pageantry
The visit was heavy on ceremony. President Trump greeted Xi and Peng at the South Portico of the White House before the group sat for tea in the Red Room. Later, the four posed for photographs upon arriving at the National Archives Museum. The rotunda there permanently houses the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution.
As Bloomberg reported, Trump’s fete for Xi was long on pageantry and platitudes but light on substantive announcements, with the events shadowed by the president’s preoccupation with construction projects and personal grievances.
The visit concluded Xi’s three-day state visit to Washington, D.C.
