Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) is vowing to fight back against what she calls “historic obstruction” from Senate Democrats, even as the chamber faces a compressed calendar ahead of the November midterms.
Appearing on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” this week, Moody responded to host Cheryl Casone’s question about what Republicans can accomplish in just 14 scheduled session days before senators head home to campaign.
“Look, Republicans have been very clear we’re going to push back on this historic obstruction that the Democrats have thrown at us,” Moody said.
The Florida Republican pointed to a list of achievements Republicans have already secured despite the gridlock, including rolling back “costly regulations,” strengthening national and community security, and passing what she described as “one of the biggest housing packages” aimed at boosting supply across the country.
“We’re rolling up our sleeves, getting to work for the American people,” Moody said. “On our minds is affordability and safety and prosperity.”
With the Senate set to return from its August recess on September 14, the legislative window is tight. Casone noted that the chamber is scheduled to be in session for only 14 days before breaking for the campaign trail.
Moody signaled that a key priority in that stretch will be the SAVE America Act, legislation she said she originally co-sponsored.
“I’m going to be pushing for that,” she said. “I think that is incredibly important for our country moving forward.”
She expressed confidence that many of her Republican colleagues share that view, adding, “I think you will see a lot of those issues on the table as we move forward and delivering for the American people.”
Republican Strategy: Press Advantages Despite Time Crunch
Moody’s comments reflect a broader GOP strategy of framing the upcoming two-week work period as an opportunity to highlight contrasts with Democrats on key issues like housing, regulation, and border security — even as the legislative calendar offers limited room for major wins.
The SAVE America Act, which Moody did not detail on air, has been a talking point among some conservatives who argue it would help address affordability and national security concerns. The bill’s exact provisions were not discussed in the segment, but Moody’s emphasis suggests it will be a focal point in the coming weeks.
Democrats have pushed back on accusations of obstruction, arguing that Republican priorities have often stalled Democratic-backed measures on voting rights, health care, and economic relief.
With control of both chambers of Congress potentially on the line in November, the Senate’s brief return could set the stage for messaging battles that resonate into the midterms.
Moody, who was elected to the Senate in a 2025 special election, has positioned herself as a staunch ally of the administration’s agenda. Her appearances on conservative media have helped boost her profile as she faces her first re-election bid in 2028.
For now, she is focused on the immediate task: “We have to make sure we keep pushing that,” she said.
