An Illinois mother who had become fixated on the Lindsay Clancy murder trial is now charged with killing her own 2-year-old son, according to multiple reports.
Corie A. Walsh, 40, of Frankfort, was arrested Friday and charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the death of her son, Barrett Walsh, NBC News reported. Police responded to her home around 4 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call about an unresponsive child.
Authorities said they found a neighbor performing CPR on the toddler, who was rushed to a local hospital but pronounced dead. Officers then discovered Walsh in a bathtub, with cuts to her wrists and thighs, surrounded by bloody water.
Prosecutors cite Clancy trial connection
Prosecutors said Walsh had “recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial” and had been “actively discussing the case” in group text messages with friends just hours before her son was found dead, according to NBC News.
The jury in Clancy’s trial — where the Massachusetts mother stands accused of killing her three children — was still deliberating on Tuesday when the incident occurred. A mistrial was declared in Clancy’s case on Friday.
Alleged confession
According to CBS News, Walsh told police “she did this to her baby because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ.’”
Her husband was out of town at the time of the incident. The couple’s three other children — an infant and two school-age kids — were unharmed.
Walsh is scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
For context, Lindsay Clancy, 36, admitted to the 2023 killings of her children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — but pleaded not guilty, citing postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder. Her trial ended in a mistrial.
