Omar Calls Trump-Backed Probe ‘Fictitious,’ Says Everyone Involved ‘Hates Me’

Rep. Ilhan Omar told MS NOW's Chris Hayes that the investigation into her is politically driven, pointing to a 6 a.m. search and a Fox News tip-off as proof of bad faith.

Omar Calls Trump-Backed Probe 'Fictitious,' Says Everyone Involved 'Hates Me'

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) accused President Donald Trump of orchestrating a “fictitious” investigation against her, telling MS NOW’s “All In” on Wednesday that everyone involved in the case has made clear they want her out of Congress and out of the country.

Speaking with host Chris Hayes, Omar argued that even the appearance of independence was abandoned from the start. “You could at least have the appearance of not having this be fictitious, not having this be directed by the president and everybody in his administration who hates me,” she said, according to Breitbart News’ account of the segment. “But they’ve chosen to blatantly have every character that has been involved be someone who has expressed explicitly that they don’t want me to be in the United States, and they don’t want me to be in Congress.”

She listed a string of names she said fit that pattern: “from Mullin to JD Vance to the president to, you know, the district attorney.”

‘I’m confident in my truth’

Hayes pressed Omar on whether she expected to survive the investigation with her liberty intact. “I’m confident in my truth,” she replied. “I’m confident in the fact that I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Omar leaned heavily on the outcomes of two earlier reviews, saying that if the current matter were handled by people who were not politically motivated, the result would match those earlier inquiries. She referenced 2019 and 2024 examinations of her husband and her finances, and said flatly that if the same scrutiny were applied now, “there would be no indictment” and “no continuation of this.”

She also returned to a claim she has made before: that Justice Department officials themselves saw no justification for the search warrant carried out in connection with the probe. “As everyone has said, even people who are currently at DOJ, that there was no reason to execute this search warrant,” Omar said.

Timing and a media tip

The congresswoman pointed to the logistics of the search as further evidence of animus. She noted the warrant authorized a window between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., and argued that arriving at the earliest permitted hour revealed the intent behind the operation. “So to come at six, tells you that,” she said.

Omar then turned to the media coverage of the search, saying the operation was leaked in advance to Fox News. “And then they tipped off Fox News, right? They were the first on site and they’re their trolls,” she said. “And so, you know, everybody can see this for what it is.”

Despite the sharp language, Omar closed on a note of reassurance about her own future. “I do feel confident that when it’s all said and done, that I’m going to be just fine,” she told Hayes.

The interview adds to a running confrontation between Omar and the administration, with the congresswoman now publicly framing the investigation as a personal vendetta rather than a legal proceeding. Her appearance on “All In” marked one of her most direct characterizations yet of the people connected to the case, tying the president, the vice president, a senator and a district attorney together as figures she says have all declared opposition to her remaining in elected office.

Whether the investigation advances, and on what grounds, remains the central question — one Omar insists has already been answered by the record of prior reviews. For now, her public position is that the case is a political instrument aimed at her, and that its eventual collapse is a matter of when, not if.
