In a fiery new op-ed for American Thinker, J.B. Shurk argues that American patriots must not lose hope, even as he catalogs a litany of alleged crimes and abuses that he says have gone unpunished. The piece, titled “Patriots Won’t Let Communists Take America,” paints a grim picture of the current political landscape, accusing the political left and its allies in government and media of a long list of offenses.
Shurk begins by declaring that “the bad guys keep winning because they suffer no consequences for their treachery.” He alleges that Islamo-fascists and communists have taken over the Democratic Party and threaten to take over Congress. He points to the lack of prosecution of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for allegedly conspiring with intelligence officials to frame President Trump as a Russian spy. He also references the involvement of Ukrainian and British intelligence in the first impeachment and claims they continue to push for war between Russia and the United States.
The op-ed goes on to accuse the mainstream media and “globalist politicians” of using COVID-19 to implement totalitarian measures, including widespread censorship, lockdowns, mass surveillance, and what he describes as “deadly chemical injections.” He faults scientific institutions for failing to state that COVID-19 was likely engineered in a Chinese bio-lab, alleging that funding was redirected by Dr. Anthony Fauci to friends and business associates overseas.

Shurk also lists a series of grievances under the Obama and Biden administrations: Christians prosecuted for their faith, parents placed on terrorism watchlists for opposing school curricula, the nationalization of healthcare, USAID used to subvert foreign elections, trillions diverted to climate change initiatives, and the defamation of police and white Americans. He claims that years of leftist domestic terrorism by Antifa, BLM rioters, and others have gone largely unreported, while media outlets focus on MAGA voters as the primary threat.
Despite this long “train of abuses,” Shurk insists that America can be saved. He draws parallels to the American Revolution, asking whether patriots would give up so easily if it were 1776. He emphasizes that the odds today are at least as favorable as they were two and a half centuries ago. He reminds readers of the unlikely success of the Founding Fathers, who faced overwhelming odds against the British Empire, endured economic turmoil, and nearly saw the nation collapse.
Shurk encourages modern patriots to embrace the underdog spirit, noting that the challenges today pale in comparison to those faced by the founders. He invokes the Declaration of Independence’s pledge of “our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor” as a model of commitment. He rejects the “black-pill” pessimism that predicts doom, asserting that the enemies of freedom have never seen American patriots actually fight.

He concludes with a rallying cry: “We are not sheep for the wolves to devour. We are the hunters who scare the wolves away.” He stresses the importance of free speech and urges readers to support American Thinker.
The op-ed reflects a growing sentiment among some conservatives that the political system is broken and that accountability is long overdue. While critics may dismiss the claims as hyperbole, the piece resonates with a segment of the population that feels the nation is under siege from within.
As the 2026 midterms approach, Shurk’s message is a call to action for patriots to stay engaged and determined, regardless of the obstacles. Whether or not one agrees with his characterization of the threats, the underlying theme of perseverance in the face of daunting odds is a timeless one.
