The Republican National Committee is doing something it has never done in a non-presidential election year: throwing a full-scale national convention, and this time, the public gets a shot at a front-row seat.
In a move first floated by President Donald Trump last year and now confirmed, the RNC will stage a two-day midterm convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10, aiming to rally the conservative base ahead of what could be a bruising November. The event, to be held at the 20,000-plus-seat American Airlines Center, home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, is being billed as the largest political convention since 2016.
The RNC exclusively told The Daily Wire that a public ticket lottery will open Saturday, August 15, allowing Americans to request tickets for one or both days of the convention. Winners will be notified on September 4 and will have just 24 hours to claim their tickets. A handful of those lucky winners will also receive special VIP front-row passes.
It’s a deliberate break from tradition. National party conventions have historically been closed-door affairs reserved for delegates, donors, and party insiders during presidential cycles. The RNC’s decision to open this one to the general public — and to hold it at all in a midterm year — reflects a party eager to generate energy and attention outside the usual election calendar.
Trump, who first floated the idea on social media, confirmed the plan with characteristic fanfare.

“BIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION,” Trump announced on Truth Social, calling it a “truly Historic Event.” He said Republicans will celebrate what he described as the “Great American Comeback” and the successes of his America First agenda.
Trump promised the convention would feature “hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators,” alongside entertainment and what he said would be “a RALLY like none other.”
“Dallas will take center stage on September 9th and 10th as we celebrate our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future,” he added.
A ‘True Celebratory Environment’
For those who win the lottery, the experience is designed to be immersive. In addition to hearing Trump speak, attendees will get access to Victory Plaza, an outdoor area that organizers say will offer surprise guests, entertainment, food, and drinks. One Republican source described it to The Daily Wire as a “true celebratory environment unlike any convention in history.”
The RNC is also recruiting volunteers. Organizers are seeking 750 volunteers per day from the Dallas area, with an application portal opening Saturday. The convention is expected to put downtown Dallas at the center of the conservative movement’s midterm push, as the party faces stiff political headwinds with control of Congress on the line.

With just 80 days until the event, Republicans plan to use the convention to frame the election as a stark choice.
The RNC signaled that the message will revolve around a contrast between “common sense and crazy,” according to a Republican source. The party plans to highlight the Trump administration’s accomplishments, including tax cuts, border security, a crackdown on government fraud, and a historic drop in violent crime.
But the convention will also go on offense, using the platform to spotlight what Republicans describe as the Democratic Party’s “rising socialist tide.” The source said the event will focus on the insurgent movement’s most fringe positions on gender, efforts to cancel Thanksgiving, and the growing influence of leftist streamer Hasan Piker, who has said America deserved the September 11 terrorist attacks.
These culture-war themes have become central to the GOP’s midterm playbook, as the party seeks to energize its base by painting Democrats as out of step with mainstream American values.
A First-of-Its-Kind Convention
Republican National Committee officials are touting the event as unprecedented. While the party has held smaller gatherings and strategy sessions in midterm years, a full-scale national convention with a rally-style program and general public access is a first.

The choice of Dallas is notable. Texas has become a Republican stronghold, and the American Airlines Center provides a large, modern venue that can accommodate the kind of crowd the RNC is hoping to draw. With more than 20,000 seats, the arena is significantly larger than typical midterm venues, and the RNC’s decision to use it signals ambitions for a massive show of force.
The public lottery is an unusual mechanism for a party convention. Typically, tickets are distributed through state parties, donors, and VIP lists. By opening the process to all Americans, the RNC is betting that ordinary voters will want to experience the circus-like atmosphere of a modern political convention firsthand.
Political observers will be watching to see how the event influences the broader midterm narrative. With control of both the House and Senate on the line, both parties are looking for ways to cut through the noise. The RNC’s gamble is that a spectacle — complete with entertainment, food, and a headline appearance by Trump — will dominate news cycles and give Republican candidates a boost as they head into the final stretch.
It’s a risky strategy, critics might argue, given that high-profile conventions can sometimes become magnets for controversy or logistical headaches. But the RNC appears to be betting that the upside — a fired-up base and wall-to-wall media coverage — outweighs the risks.
For now, the details are clear: the July 15 lottery opens Saturday, September 9 and 10 are the dates to circle, and Dallas is the place to be if you want to be part of what the RNC is calling a historic moment in conservative politics.
