The Daily Wire cited reporting from its own Brecca Stoll that the authors of a frequently cited paper used by data center critics have ties to the Chinese Communist Party. The outlet linked that reporting to Trump’s earlier claim that there is “a sick conspiracy going on against AI and data centers,” and that “the only one that is happy about it is China.”
Against that backdrop, the presence of Altman and other AI leaders at the state dinner was, in the Daily Wire’s telling, a signal to Beijing that the U.S. intends to set the terms of the technology race — without nationalizing its companies or jailing its critics.
Dimon and the Money Behind the Competition
Dimon’s attendance carried its own message, according to the outlet. The JPMorgan Chase CEO has been publicly urging the government to take what he has described as a “light touch” to AI regulation so as not to smother innovation, and he has repeatedly argued that America’s economic strength cannot be separated from its national security.

Protests Outside, Cheers on the Corner
Outside the White House, the scene was more complicated. Driving through Washington before the dinner, the Daily Wire’s author described standstill traffic and a mix of demonstrators lining the streets. On some corners were Tibetan and Taiwanese flags, posters and chants denouncing Xi, and calls for freedom in China.
But on other corners were groups waving banners in both Mandarin and English reading “A warm welcome to Chairman Xi on his visit to the U.S.” and “Hello, Uncle Xi.” The essay questioned the authenticity of those supporters, suggesting they were either paid or Chinese nationals worried about retaliation against family members back home, and pointed to longstanding concerns that Chinese students in the U.S. fear speaking critically about their government.
The author’s conclusion was that the contrast cut both ways: it was a reminder of who the U.S. is dealing with in Beijing, and of the political freedoms that distinguish the American system — the same system that had, hours earlier, put a group of CEOs who had publicly clashed with their own president in the room with a rival superpower.
