Virginia Middle School Students Tackle Knife-Wielding Classmate After Teacher Attack

Seventh-grade students at Jonesville Middle School in Virginia sprang into action Thursday morning, tackling and subduing a fellow student who allegedly attacked a teacher with a knife, according to local reports.

The incident unfolded at the school, where the attacker reportedly used a “cutlery knife” that he said he took from the school’s kitchen, the sheriff’s office said. WJHL first reported the attack, which occurred Thursday morning.

Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons told ABC News that a group of students intervened quickly. “Several students came in and tackled the kid, got him down and controlled him,” Parsons said.

The teacher’s injuries were described as not life-threatening. Authorities have not released details about what led up to the attack.

Student Charged

Sheriff Parsons said the student has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and assault. “He’s been taken into juvenile detention,” Parsons added. “Of course, there’ll be a court appearance at a later date.”

The quick actions of the students likely prevented more serious harm, though officials did not specify the extent of the teacher’s injuries or whether the teacher has been released from medical care.

The school district and law enforcement have not yet commented further on the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not said whether additional charges could be filed.

This incident adds to a broader conversation about school safety and the role of bystanders in emergencies. While students are often encouraged to avoid direct intervention, in this case, the group’s swift response was credited with stopping the attack.

No other injuries were reported. The name of the teacher and the student have not been released publicly.
