Former President Donald Trump skewered Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed during a fiery Iowa rally Sunday, while celebrating Rep. Haley Stevens for her surprise endorsement of GOP Senate hopeful Mike Rogers.
‘I Call Him Mohammed’
Trump repeatedly mocked El-Sayed by intentionally using the name “Mohammed” instead of Abdul, referencing the candidate’s purported ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. “I called him Mohammed for certain reasons,” Trump told the Dubuque crowd. “I’m president, Abdul, and I have the right to call you whatever the hell I want!”
The former president characterized El-Sayed as “arrogant” and “a disaster,” adding: “Hopefully he gets his ass kicked because that’s what he knows.”

Mosque Controversy
Trump amplified recent reports that El-Sayed allegedly gathered ballot petition signatures at mosques with extremist ties. “These radical mosques called America the House of Satan and advocated for ‘the final annihilation of Jews,'” Trump claimed. “Now suddenly he says ‘Jews are wonderful’ – but he’s worse with Black Americans than Jews!”
Stevens Crosses the Aisle
Trump pivoted to praise Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens for her “very brave” endorsement of Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s Senate race. “She showed almost unprecedented loyalty to Michigan,” Trump said, calling Rogers “apple pie” and suggesting Stevens consider joining the GOP.
The former president’s comments come as Stevens faces blowback from her own party. Michigan Democratic leaders reportedly declared her no longer a party member following the bipartisan endorsement.
Trump closed with a jab about increased security for El-Sayed if elected: “We’ll need a special metal detector just for Abdul!”
