Disturbing 911 audio reveals a Bend, Oregon dispatcher repeatedly told an armed father not to act as a school shooter entered his daughter’s elementary school—before he intervened and stopped the attack himself.
The October 15 call, obtained by Oregon Public Broadcasting, shows 36-year-old Kaylub Giamanco desperately reporting an armed teen entering Silver Rail Elementary while declaring his intent to protect his child. “I have a gun, and I will shoot them right now if I have to,” Giamanco tells the dispatcher, who responds by asking for his phone number rather than addressing the imminent threat.
‘I’m About to Go Kill This Kid’
As gunfire erupts in the background, Giamanco screams: “This is my daughter’s school! I’m about to go kill this kid. He’s in the school!” The dispatcher continues asking logistical questions while Giamanco pleads for urgency, finally shouting “God damn it, they’re [expletive] shooting people! Come on!”
Breitbart News reports Giamanco—a concealed carry permit holder—ultimately entered the building and fatally shot the 16-year-old attacker. In a subsequent call to his mother, he said: “A man went into my daughters’ school and shot kids and I looked at him point-blank, and I shot and killed him, Mom.”
Dispatch Protocol Under Scrutiny
The chilling exchange has sparked debate over emergency response protocols when callers are armed at active shooter scenes. While some argue dispatchers must maintain control of chaotic situations, others contend the audio shows a dangerous failure to recognize an immediate life-or-death scenario.
Giamanco’s daughter was among the students unharmed in the attack. The identity and motive of the teenage shooter remain under investigation by Bend police.
