Sanders: Midterms Reveal 'Profound Disgust' with Trump's 'Dangerous' Presidency

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) declared that the 2026 midterm election results exposed a “profound disgust” with former President Donald Trump, whom he labeled “the most dangerous president in the history of the United States.” In an appearance on MSNBC’s The Beat, Sanders argued that voters had rebuked Trump’s leadership while demanding economic reforms from Democrats.

‘A Rejection of Trumpism’

Sanders accused Trump of disregarding the Constitution, fostering corruption, and displaying extreme narcissism. “Thinks the world revolves around himself,” Sanders said, calling Trump’s administration “maybe the most corrupt in history.” He also criticized Trump’s foreign policy decisions, including what he described as an “illegal and unconstitutional” war.

Economic Grievances Take Center Stage

Beyond Trump, Sanders framed the election as a broader indictment of economic inequality. He highlighted stagnant wages, homelessness, and the lack of universal healthcare, arguing that “60% of our people live paycheck to paycheck.” The senator pointed to Elon Musk’s wealth—exceeding that of the bottom 53% of U.S. households—as emblematic of a system rigged against working families.

“People are demanding that the Democratic Party take on the greed of the oligarchs,” Sanders said, urging legislative action to address wealth disparity. His remarks signal a push for progressive economic policies as Democrats assess their post-midterm strategy.
