FBI agents confronted former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, executing a search warrant and seizing his phone and other electronic devices, according to multiple sources familiar with the operation who spoke to The Daily Wire.
The surprise airport stop is part of a broader federal crackdown that also saw agents serve search warrants at Swalwell’s Washington, D.C. residence, where additional electronics were taken, several sources confirmed. The seizures are tied to an ongoing criminal probe into the 45-year-old former lawmaker stemming from accusations of sexual misconduct, including a rape allegation made by a former staffer.
Swalwell, who has not publicly responded to the latest developments, reportedly cooperated with agents when they greeted him at the airport on Saturday, the Daily Mail first reported. His wife and children were not present at the D.C. home when authorities entered, according to The Daily Wire’s reporting.
Newly Declassified Documents Add to Scrutiny
The FBI action comes just days after newly declassified documents brought renewed attention to Swalwell’s past interactions with Christine Fang, a woman identified as a Chinese spy known as “Fang Fang.” The documents, which have not been addressed by Swalwell, shed light on what The Daily Wire describes as his “repeated dalliances” with Fang.
The former gubernatorial candidate has faced a series of accusations from multiple women alleging inappropriate sexual behavior. One former staffer claimed he raped her twice while she was too intoxicated to consent. Swalwell has consistently denied the allegations, calling them politically motivated.
Before the accusations became public, Swalwell was leading the field in California’s gubernatorial primary. He argued that the charges were engineered to keep him from splintering the Democratic vote in the state’s “jungle primary” system, which advances only the top two candidates regardless of party. His exit, he claimed, was a strategic move to prevent a general election that would lock out Democrats entirely.
Swalwell resigned from Congress days after dropping out of the race. The Department of Justice officially opened an investigation into him in April, and he has remained largely quiet in the weeks since.
