Raphael Glucksmann, a wealthy Parisian intellectual and politician, has entered the race to become the Left’s standard-bearer against the front-runner, Marine Le Pen of the National Rally (RN). But a report from The Telegraph, highlighted by The Gateway Pundit, has reignited scrutiny over his lineage: Glucksmann is the grandson of Rubin Glucksmann, a communist who worked as a Soviet spy across Europe.
The revelation has landed with particular force given the ongoing accusations from mainstream media that right-wing figures in France and Europe are “Putin’s puppets.” Critics are now pointing to Glucksmann’s ancestry as evidence of a double standard.
A Left Divided, A Right United
The French presidential election, scheduled for next year, has a clear favorite: Marine Le Pen. Since Jordan Bardella led the RN to a commanding victory in the June 2024 European elections, the party has held an undisputed lead in the polls — a position it has maintained for over two years.

He then operated as a Soviet spy in France, Germany, and Britain, where he posed as a businessman.
The Gateway Pundit notes that Glucksmann, like many leading leftists, is “wealthy and well-connected” within the Parisian establishment — a fact the outlet claims The Telegraph frames in an overly favorable light.
The story has added fuel to an already bitter political climate. Critics argue that the same media outlets quick to label right-wing politicians as foreign agents have shown far less zeal when examining the backgrounds of left-wing candidates.

The election comes as President Emmanuel Macron’s tenure winds down, with his successor set to be chosen amid widespread dissatisfaction.
