Alex Cooper Tells Women the Answer to ‘Should I Leave My Marriage?’ Is ‘Always Yes’

On the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, Cooper and actress Sophia Bush urged women not to stay in unhappy marriages — comments that drew sharp pushback from conservative podcasters.

Alex Cooper Tells Women the Answer to 'Should I Leave My Marriage?' Is 'Always Yes'

Alex Cooper, host of the top-rated “Call Her Daddy” podcast, told listeners that when women wonder whether they could do better than their current husband, the answer is always yes — a comment that has drawn sharp criticism from conservative commentators.

Cooper made the remark during a conversation with actress Sophia Bush, who starred in “One Tree Hill” and has been married three times, most recently to a woman, according to The Daily Wire.

Describing the internal debate some women have about leaving a marriage, Cooper said: “Maybe I shouldn’t leave this marriage because can I even get better?” She then answered her own question: “And the answer is always yes!”

Bush, for her part, pointed the finger at the patriarchy, arguing that the idea it’s too late to leave, or that women are too old to start over, is itself a product of that system. “That is patriarchy!” she said. “That is crazy! We don’t need it!”

Backlash from conservative podcasters

The clip circulated quickly, and Daily Wire podcast host Isabel Brown pushed back, calling the advice “terrible” and arguing that it treats marriage as a disposable arrangement.

“What’s devastating about this mentality is that your actual husband can always be ‘better,’ and so can you, by the way,” Brown said. She argued that the growth that comes from two people challenging each other is the most beautiful part of marriage.

Brown went further, saying nothing is more sanctifying than a spouse who holds up a mirror and helps pull you up when you’re not the person you’re meant to be. Replacing a spouse with someone else, she said, removes that experience entirely and leaves people in an infantilized relationship that never meaningfully progresses.

A pattern of provocative advice

It isn’t the first time Cooper has drawn attention for her advice on relationships. In April, she said women should feel free to sleep with a man on the first date, including having anal sex, if it feels right to them, telling listeners to disregard friends who warn that such moves send the wrong impression.

“You have to go based on what feels good to your body and what feels right to you,” she said at the time.

Cooper is married herself and recently welcomed a child with her husband, a detail critics of her advice have pointed to as a contrast with the guidance she offers listeners.

The 32-year-old remains one of the most influential voices in podcasting. “Call Her Daddy” ranks as one of the most popular podcasts in the country, sitting at No. 4 overall and drawing millions of listeners, according to The Daily Wire.

The exchange with Bush is the latest flashpoint in a broader cultural debate over marriage, commitment, and whether women are better served by staying and working through problems or by leaving when they believe something better awaits.
