To’Nea Nicole Miller was found dead near Gwen Cherry Park in Miami on June 18. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office ruled her death an apparent suicide and said there was no evidence of foul play.
Jerard “Jay” Jackson was found dead in Michigan on June 30. Michigan State Police said it appeared he died by suicide and reported no indication of foul play.
Independent trackers who monitor such deaths count somewhere between seven and 10 public hanging deaths over the past year, a number roughly in line with the figure Ocasio-Cortez cited. But police and coroners note that the majority of those cases were clear-cut suicides — a distinction the lawmakers’ posts did not acknowledge, per the outlet.
