Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz faced a hostile crowd of Lindsay Clancy supporters on Friday after a judge declared a mistrial in her high-profile murder trial, with one woman shouting, “You only cared when the kids were dead! Why don’t you care about the mother?!”
The outburst came during Cruz’s press conference outside the courthouse, according to The Gateway Pundit. The mistrial was declared after jurors told the judge all week they could not reach a unanimous decision, marking the end of seven days of deliberations in the case against Clancy, who is accused of murder in connection with the deaths of her children.
Mistrial Declared After Jury Deadlock
Court reconvened Friday morning after the jury indicated it remained deadlocked. The development followed a contentious week in which the judge initially denied a defense request to remove a juror for allegedly not following rules on reasonable doubt, instead providing the jury with additional guidance on the legal standard and ordering them to resume deliberations.
On Friday, Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, accused the lone male holdout juror of lying under oath, claiming the juror had promised to follow the law but refused to apply the reasonable doubt standard. Despite that argument, the judge announced he would declare a mistrial but gave the defense team one hour to appeal to the Massachusetts Supreme Court.
After a brief Zoom hearing, the state’s highest court denied Reddington’s appeal, clearing the way for the mistrial to be formally declared.
Prosecutors Vow to Retry
Plymouth County prosecutors have already informed the court that they intend to retry the case. Cruz’s press conference was meant to address the outcome, but his remarks were drowned out by the emotional shouting from Clancy’s supporters, who accused him of indifference toward the defendant.
