INDIANAPOLIS — Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of drinking and driving following an early-morning arrest in downtown Indianapolis last month, according to court records reviewed by the California Post.
Allen, 34, was stopped by police on Aug. 30 after officers observed his vehicle parked in a no-parking zone, the California Post reported. He allegedly displayed signs of inebriation at the scene and was taken into custody. The stop occurred just after 1 a.m., and Allen was not released until roughly 4 p.m. that day.
Two Misdemeanor Counts Filed
The charges against Allen include one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more and one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, per the court records cited by the California Post. He was booked and processed during his time in custody, and a mugshot taken at the time appeared to show red, glassy eyes.
A spokesperson for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said authorities were awaiting “laboratory results necessary to make a formal charging determination,” according to the California Post. The status of those results was not immediately clear.
Allen has not publicly commented on the arrest or the charges. It was not immediately known whether he has retained legal counsel. The Colts have not issued a statement on the matter.
A Veteran Receiver on a New Team
Allen joined the Colts this offseason as a veteran presence in the receiving corps. He spent the bulk of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers before a stint with the Chicago Bears. The six-time Pro Bowler is widely regarded as one of the most productive possession receivers of his generation.
Details about Allen’s role with the team going forward were not addressed in the initial reporting, and it was unclear whether the Colts or the NFL would take any disciplinary action while the legal process unfolds.
Comes After Another High-Profile NFL Arrest
The arrest and charges against Allen come shortly after former NFL quarterback Tony Romo was arrested in Wisconsin for allegedly being intoxicated at twice the legal limit, according to the California Post. Romo, a longtime Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current NFL broadcaster, was taken into custody in that separate incident.
The two cases add to a string of off-field legal issues involving prominent NFL figures in recent weeks, drawing attention to the league’s personal conduct policies.
