DSA-Backed NYC Mayor Mamdani’s Resurfaced Video Lays Bare the ‘Marxist/Islamist Playbook’

A newly unearthed video shows New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani advising Muslims to serve as 'validators' to white progressives, fueling conservative claims of a coordinated 'divide and conquer' strategy.

DSA-Backed NYC Mayor Mamdani's Resurfaced Video Lays Bare the 'Marxist/Islamist Playbook'

In a provocative new essay for American Thinker, columnist Jim Davis argues that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and their Muslim allies are executing a deliberate ‘divide and conquer’ strategy against the West, and he points to five videos as proof. The centerpiece is a resurfaced clip of Zohran Mamdani—the Ugandan-born, DSA-backed mayor of New York City—in which he appears to outline a method for Muslims to gain influence among white progressive voters.

‘White communities, they’ve had representation forever,’ Mamdani says in the video, speaking to another Muslim in English. ‘And so for them, the tie is a little less identity and a little more ideology. … A lot of [white] voters think of themselves first as progressive voters, and so we reach out to them speaking about our platform, our progressive platform. … You need someone in the middle, to be a validator. Someone to tell them to trust us, believe in us.’

Davis seizes on these comments as a rare candid admission of what he calls the ‘Marxist/Islamist playbook.’ He argues that Mamdani is advising fellow Muslims to present themselves as bridges between their own communities and white leftists—positions that, in Davis’s view, are designed to win elections and ultimately reshape American society.

Davis writes that this strategy exploits a fundamental difference in voting behavior: ‘Minorities vote identity. Whites vote ideology. They know it. They use it.’ He credits Brigitte Gabriel, a Lebanese-American activist, for this observation, and argues that the alliance between minority groups and ‘ashamed-to-be-white lunatics of the left-wing fringe’ has been forged and hardened over decades, with Muslims now the most salient component.

From ‘Useful Idiots’ to Strategists

Davis contends that white progressives initially used black, Latino, and now Muslim voters as ‘useful idiots’ to defeat conservatives. But he argues the tables have turned: ‘Now, Third World Muslims like Mamdani have started using white progressives as useful idiots, to defeat and conquer Western civilization.’

The remaining videos in Davis’s list are meant to illustrate the purported threat. One is a Facebook reel from Dearborn, Michigan, which Davis describes as resembling ‘Beirut, but with American architecture.’ He claims a young man walking backward with a microphone is ‘exhorting his Muslim brothers to rise up in an Islamic revolution, and crush the infidel American lifestyle.’

Another video, also from Facebook, shows a speaker saying in plain English that ‘Islam cannot coexist with other religions.’ A fourth features Hasan Piker, a prominent left-wing streamer, who says, ‘I don’t have any sort of patriotism in my heart for America.’ Davis adds that Piker once said, word for word, ‘America deserved 9/11,’ and accuses Mamdani and other American Muslim politicians of being ‘happy to be seen with him, smiling.’

Davis argues that these public associations serve as a dog whistle to two different audiences. To white progressives, the message is: ‘We are just like you, and we validate you. We want to elevate you over Trump’s Republicans.’ To Muslim voters, he says, the subtext is: ‘We want to elevate you over the Christians and the Jews, in their own homelands. We will conquer the West through the ballot box and the womb.’

Historical Parallels: The Barbary Wars

The fifth and final video in Davis’s collection is a segment from Bill Maher’s cable show featuring a historian discussing the Barbary pirates. The historian contends that the ‘pirates’ were actually ‘the feeble attempt by North African Muslim kingdoms to put a naval presence out in deep water,’ and that they enslaved an estimated one and a half million Europeans and Americans.

Davis recounts that in 1788, American merchant ships were being seized and crews carried off into slavery. When Thomas Jefferson and John Adams confronted the ambassador of a Barbary state in London, they were told, ‘Because the Koran gives us permission to do so, because you are infidels.’ That exchange, Davis says, led to war—a war the United States won, though it lost the USS Philadelphia, burned in Tripoli harbor. The Marine Corps hymn’s line ‘To the shores of Tripoli’ commemorates that conflict.

Davis draws a direct line from the Barbary states to modern Iran, which he says is ‘trying the same trick’ with missiles and terrorists instead of scimitars. He notes that Iran’s 1979 revolution was aided by Marxists who were later ‘shot, because they were useful idiots.’

A Call to ‘See It Coming’

Davis is blunt about the stakes: ‘Islam is playing chess with the West; their opening is a masterclass in divide and conquer.’ He warns that Latin American immigrants, at least, were Catholic and thus unlikely to ‘subvert the fundamental Judeo-Christian nature of America.’ But Muslims, he says, have already conquered 57 countries that were formerly Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, or tribal, and are now targeting Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and eventually the United States.

He quotes William of Orange: ‘The duty of every patriot is to die in the last ditch.’ But he hopes it won’t come to that, urging Americans to recognize the threat: ‘We have to see this coming, and we have to make a stand. If Europe and Australia fall, there won’t be anywhere to run.’

Davis names several DSA-aligned politicians—including Mamdani, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Darializa Chevalier—as ‘just the tip of the spear,’ noting that all except El-Sayed are incumbents or running in safe Democratic districts.

The essay is a provocative call to action from a conservative commentator who has written for Daily Caller and Newsmax. Whether or not readers share his alarm, the resurfaced video of Mayor Mamdani is likely to generate continued debate about the role of identity politics and progressive alliances in American elections.
