A domestic violence call in Polk County, Florida, ended with a mother and son both facing incest charges after the son volunteered details that investigators say they never expected to hear.
Christina Clemens, 46, and her son Shane Clemens, 22, were arrested and charged with incest, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. The mother also faces a charge of adultery.
Judd walked local outlet WPEC through the sequence of events, describing how a dispute at the family’s home unraveled into something far darker than the responding deputies had anticipated.
A domestic call, then a sudden admission
Deputies were dispatched after Christina Clemens alleged that her son had battered her at the residence. While officers were on scene handling that complaint, Judd said, Shane Clemens decided to reveal something explosive — apparently out of spite.
According to the sheriff, the younger Clemens told officers that he and his mother had been having sexual intercourse since he turned 18.
Deputies then turned to Christina Clemens and asked whether there was any truth to her son’s claim. Her response, as Judd recounted it to WPEC, was to acknowledge the relationship while minimizing its frequency — telling law enforcement that she and her son had had sex “only about 100 times.”
Husband reportedly unaware, but suspicious
As part of the investigation, deputies also questioned Christina Clemens’ husband. Judd said the man had no idea the alleged sexual relationship was happening, though he told investigators he had grown suspicious when he noticed the pair going into the master bedroom and locking the door.
The sheriff did not elaborate on how long the alleged relationship continued or what evidence, beyond the statements, deputies gathered before filing charges.
Judd was blunt when asked about the case. “What else can you say? That’s nasty,” he said. “And it’s illegal.”
The case remains active in Polk County, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until the charges are resolved in court.
