Lindsay Clancy's Attorney Surprised by Trial Superfan's Unexpected Question After Cross-Examination

Outside a Massachusetts courthouse, the man known as “CourtDawgDaniel” caught the attention of Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, expecting another casual celebrity interaction. Instead, Reddington got a question that stopped him in his tracks — and revealed a surprising career origin story.

“I met you the other day,” Daniel said as Reddington left the building, according to a video posted by the courtroom enthusiast.

“Court Dawg!” Reddington replied, noticing the camera and quipping, “At least my shirt’s tucked in.”

The two walked down the street together, with Daniel explaining that he travels from court to court in an RV to watch as many criminal trials as he can. He told Reddington he’d been following the Clancy case closely and enjoyed watching him work.

An Unexpected Question

Then came the question that flummoxed the veteran attorney: “Did you always know you wanted to be a lawyer?”

Reddington laughed, clearly surprised. “That’s a great question.”

He went on to share a memory from his junior year of high school, when he found himself in the dean’s office waiting to get scolded for some trouble he’d gotten into. Bored and waiting, he picked up a careers book.

“I read the thing about lawyers, and it had a picture of Abraham Lincoln, and I said, ‘Hey, that might be fun,'” Reddington recalled. “That was the only time I ever thought about it really.”

He said he never looked back, heading to Boston College and then law school — a path so common in his era that it felt almost automatic.

“Back then everybody wanted to be a lawyer,” he said.

Daniel admitted he was trying to “live vicariously” through attorneys, adding, “I’m an engineer. I wish I had been a lawyer.”

Reddington, quick with a retort, shot back: “But can I tell you, I don’t want to live vicariously through you as an engineer.”

The Clancy Trial

Reddington’s current trial involves Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother charged with strangling her three young children before attempting suicide. The trial is expected to last six to eight weeks.

The defense is arguing that Clancy, who was reportedly suffering from postpartum depression at the time of the alleged killings, is not criminally responsible for her actions. The prosecution, meanwhile, has been pressing its case through cross-examination of expert witnesses, with Reddington mounting a vigorous defense.

The chance encounter with CourtDawgDaniel came after a heated day in court, offering a brief moment of levity in an otherwise somber proceeding.

For CourtDawgDaniel — who documents trials for a following on social media — the exchange was a highlight of his courtroom travels. For Reddington, it was a reminder of the quirky, unexpected moments that come with life in the legal spotlight.
