Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love and his wife, Ronika Stone, took a not-so-subtle jab at NFL officiating with their Halloween costumes this year, dressing as “blind referees” just weeks after a controversial game filled with disputed penalties.
The couple wore standard referee uniforms, complete with sunglasses and walking sticks, in a video posted to social media. Stone captioned the clip, “I’m jokin, immmmmm jokin,” while later joking in the comments that they were simply “Footlocker employees.” But the yellow penalty flags Love held in his hand made the real inspiration clear.
Costume Follows Contentious Packers-Lions Game
The playful dig comes after Love and the Packers were on the receiving end of multiple controversial calls in their October 30 game against the Detroit Lions. Referee Alex Moore’s crew flagged Green Bay at least four times on highly disputed penalties, including a missed targeting call when Lions safety Brian Branch hit Packers tight end Tucker Kraft in the facemask with his helmet.
The officiating was so heavily criticized that the NFL removed Moore’s crew from their scheduled primetime assignment the following week.
No Fine Expected for Playful Jab
While the NFL has fined players for uniform violations and on-field conduct, no player has ever been penalized for a Halloween costume. Love’s lighthearted critique follows a long tradition of athletes using humor to voice frustrations with officiating, though rarely so visually.
The Packers, currently fighting for playoff positioning, face the New England Patriots this Sunday as Love looks to move past the controversial calls—and perhaps inspire some more favorable ones.
