Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, used a Friday night appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” to paint the Democratic Senate slate as a collection of fringe figures, calling them “dangerous, radical and weird” and urging viewers to keep the GOP’s midterm effort on offense. According to Breitbart, which first flagged the remarks, Scott argued that polling may be understating how far left some Democratic nominees have positioned themselves.
Host Sean Hannity opened the exchange by questioning whether surveys were capturing the full picture. “I don’t know if the polling is capturing how extreme these candidates are,” Hannity said. “Do you believe in your polling it’s showing up?”
Scott acknowledged that the party’s own numbers show a tight map — “Our polling shows that we have races that are toss-ups,” he said — but argued the GOP’s path runs through sustained attacks on Democratic records. “The one thing we have to do is continue to put lead on the target,” Scott said, describing the Democratic field as “dangerous, radical and weird candidates all across the map.”
Singling Out Specific Candidates
The NRSC chairman then walked through a list of Democratic contenders by name, beginning with Texas Senate candidate James Talarico. Scott said Talarico believes “free markets and capitalism is racist” and tied him to a description of faith that Scott characterized as “non-binary God Talarico.” Scott, who frequently credits his own upbringing for his political outlook, pushed back directly on the characterization of capitalism. “My life was changed because of free markets and capitalism,” he said.
From Texas, Scott moved to Michigan, where he took aim at Abdul El-Sayed, saying the candidate has argued that football is racist and supports abolishing ICE, defunding the police and closing prisons. Scott’s response leaned into cultural territory, telling Hannity that football is a beloved American institution and predicting voters would reject such positions.
He also referenced Maine’s Troy Jackson, quoting him as having said, “I’d run as a communist if you could.” Scott did not elaborate on the context of the remark but used it as a springboard for his broader argument. “This is what’s happening across the country,” Scott said. “These are wolves in sheep clothes. They want to run to the center, but everything you watch they’ve ever said is lunatics talking like lunatics.”
Scott rounded out the list with New Hampshire’s Chris Pappas, saying the Democrat “has never seen a tax increase in New Hampshire he didn’t like.”
A Closing Appeal to Voters
Scott framed the midterms as a choice about the country’s direction, returning to the theme of exposure that has defined the NRSC’s messaging strategy this cycle. “America, believe the words that these Democrats said, these socialists said, frankly, communists said before they were at the ballot box,” he said. “We’ve got to believe them, expose them, and defeat them.”
He concluded by characterizing the Democratic field as the “most dangerous, radical group of people who want to change America, not love the America that you and I love.”
The appearance reflects the NRSC’s broader strategy of nationalizing Senate races around individual Democratic candidates’ past statements rather than local issues. Scott’s comments come as both parties enter the final stretch before the November midterms, with control of the Senate hanging on a handful of races his own polling — by his own account — still describes as toss-ups.
Breitbart reported the exchange from Friday’s broadcast. Scott’s office did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment on the specific claims made during the interview.
