President Donald Trump told a crowd in Mobile, Alabama, on Friday that he intends to attend next week’s college football game between Georgia and Alabama, framing the trip as a return to a state he said has treated him well at the ballot box.
“We love Alabama,” Trump said during the rally, according to The Hill. “In fact, we love it so much I’ll be here again next Saturday to watch a football game between Georgia and Alabama.”
The game is set for the evening of October 10 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, home of the Crimson Tide. Trump pointed to the rankings during his remarks, noting that one team sits at No. 2 and the other at No. 7, before teasing the crowd about which side would come out on top.
“They say it’s gonna be a good game. I would think so,” he said. “But that doesn’t matter too much at this stage, so let’s say will Alabama or Georgia win that game?”
The question drew loud cheers. “I thought you’d say that, I thought you’d say that,” Trump replied.
No Confirmation From Tuscaloosa
Whether the trip is locked in remains unclear. A University of Alabama athletics official told The Tuscaloosa News that the department was unaware any visit from Trump had been confirmed, though the official described it as a possibility, the outlet reported.
The White House has not publicly detailed any scheduling plans for the game. For now, the president’s announcement stands as a statement made from the rally stage rather than a finalized itinerary.
Trump tied the football stop to his broader political history in the state, telling supporters that Alabama has been a source of unusually strong support for him across three elections. He claimed the highest vote total of any candidate in Alabama history, calling it “another very great distinction.”
A Campaign Trail Stop With a Football Backdrop
The Mobile rally is one of several the president has held in recent weeks as the midterm elections approach, with Trump traveling to battleground states to boost Republican candidates and turnout.
Asked by Breitbart News in September what Republicans should be doing that they weren’t already doing to win the midterms, Trump offered a simple prescription: “Just keep fighting and just keep explaining how well we’re doing as a country. We’re doing better now as a country than we’ve ever done before.”
Chris LaCivita, co-campaign manager of Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, told Breitbart that the president is on the campaign trail for a 30-day stretch as the GOP works to protect its congressional majorities. LaCivita described the president’s tele-rallies as “crazily effective” and said there is “no better person from our standpoint that can turn out voters than President Trump.”
Despite the pace, Trump said Friday that he isn’t feeling the wear of the schedule. “I never get tired,” he told the crowd.
College Football as a Political Venue
A presidential appearance at a regular-season college football game carries obvious political utility, particularly in a state where Trump has run up wide margins. Bryant-Denny Stadium holds more than 100,000 people, and a Georgia-Alabama matchup between two highly ranked programs is among the more anticipated games on the SEC calendar.
At the same time, mixing a sitting president’s travel with a campus event raises logistical questions that athletics officials have not yet addressed publicly. The Tuscaloosa News account suggests the university learned of the possibility through the president’s public remarks rather than through advance coordination.
Trump’s Alabama stop also fits a pattern of campaign-season appearances that blend official travel, rallies, and cultural events — a mix his advisers have argued helps energize voters who might otherwise tune out traditional political messaging.
For now, the only firm date is October 10 in Tuscaloosa. Whether the president is in the stands when Georgia and Alabama kick off will depend on arrangements that, as of Friday, the home team said it hadn’t confirmed.
