Vance cited Florida as a key example where Republican turnout nearly matched 2024 levels, with the electorate skewing 9 points more Republican than Democrat. Similar patterns emerged across battleground states. “The main problem is not turnout,” Vance wrote. “The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026.”
According to Vance, internal pollsters accurately predicted the defections, warning that anger over four key issues – particularly the Iran conflict – drove voters away. Their prescription: ending the war, addressing inflation, prioritizing America First policies, and reassessing ties with Israel.
Post-Mortem Battles Loom
Vance warned against establishment Republicans blaming the losses on immigration policy failures rather than foreign entanglements. “Anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you,” he wrote. “The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.”
The vice president challenged critics to defend the Iran conflict’s strategic value if they believe the political fallout was justified, rather than obscuring its electoral impact. “Agree or disagree,” he wrote, “that’s at least honest.”
