President Donald Trump issued a forceful warning to Iran on Monday, declaring that the country will pay “many times over” for every American service member killed, according to Breitbart.
Trump posted the message to his Truth Social platform Monday afternoon, directing his threat at Iranian leadership following the recent deaths of three U.S. service members.
“Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” Trump wrote in his post. “This directive has been passed on to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Caine, and every Leader in the Military.”
The statement came in response to attacks over the weekend that resulted in American casualties. U.S. Central Command announced that two service members were killed and another remained missing following an Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Jordan on Friday.
The military identified the fallen service members as Army Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, and 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25. Four additional service members required medical evacuation to hospitals following the drone and ballistic missile attacks, though they have since been discharged.
A third American service member was killed on Saturday in northern Iran during what CENTCOM described as “a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.” Another service member sustained what officials characterized as a minor injury and is receiving treatment.
Ongoing Military Operations
The president addressed reporters on Sunday following the World Cup final, stating that U.S. forces hit Iran “very hard” in retaliatory strikes for the service member deaths. According to Breitbart, Trump indicated the U.S. was conducting its ninth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets at that time.
“We hit them very hard again tonight, and we did that in honor of the probably three — it’s probably three, as opposed to two — great patriots,” Trump told reporters, acknowledging the uncertainty around the total number of casualties at the time.
The president offered an assessment of Iran’s military capabilities following the sustained U.S. operations, claiming the country has been “very, very, badly damaged.”
“They’ve lost everything, almost, militarily,” Trump said. “They’ve got very little left. They’ve got some missiles. They’ve got some drones. They’ve got some manufacturing ability — not much.”
Trump added that the United States controls strategic waterways in the region, stating: “We control the strait. They don’t control anything. So, we’ll see what happens.”
Presidential Visit Planned
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Monday that Trump plans to attend the dignified transfer ceremony for the three service members at Dover Air Force Base on Tuesday. Such ceremonies mark the return of fallen service members to U.S. soil and are attended by families and military leadership.
The escalating tensions between the United States and Iran come amid broader regional instability. The attacks on American forces in Jordan and the subsequent U.S. military response represent a significant intensification of hostilities between the two nations.
Trump’s directive to military leadership signals the administration’s commitment to what it describes as a deterrent posture against further Iranian aggression toward American personnel stationed in the Middle East.
