Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested multiple undocumented immigrants across the United States over the weekend, targeting individuals with previous convictions for serious violent crimes, according to Breitbart News.
The weekend enforcement operations took place while many Americans were focused on the FIFA World Cup Finals. Lauren Bis, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, stated that ICE law enforcement personnel “worked around the clock to arrest the worst of the worst, including murderers, rapists, violent assailants, drug traffickers, and other public safety threats.”
High-Profile Arrests
Among those taken into custody were two Vietnamese nationals with murder convictions. Hiep Ngoc Nguyen had been previously convicted of first-degree murder in Lexington, Oklahoma, while Truc Ngoc Tran had convictions for murder, drunk driving, and aggravated assault in Santa Ana, California.
ICE agents also arrested two individuals convicted of crimes involving minors. Eduardo Jose Lacayo-Alvarado, a Nicaraguan national, had been convicted of rape, sodomy with a person under 14 years old, and false imprisonment in San Mateo, California. Juan Baldemar Figueroa-Lopez, from Guatemala, had been convicted of sexual assault of a child in Denver, Colorado. Both arrests occurred in sanctuary jurisdictions.
Additional arrests included Fabio Junior Dos Santos, a Brazilian national convicted of aggravated assault against a child involving a dangerous weapon in Gardner, Massachusetts, and Rafael Flores-Aguilar from El Salvador, who was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury in Guilford County, North Carolina.
Additional Arrests
The weekend operations resulted in numerous other arrests across the country. Tuoc Ba Dinh, a Vietnamese national, was arrested following a conviction for aggravated assault with intent to murder in Madison Heights, Michigan.
In California, Jorge Velazquez-De La Cruz from Mexico was taken into custody after convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence, and corporal injury to a spouse in San Luis Obispo.
Roberto Suarez-Friot, a Cuban national, was arrested in Tampa, Florida, where he had been convicted of aggravated battery involving resisting an officer, criminal mischief, and aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability.
Other arrests included Jeferson Mejia-Diaz from El Salvador, convicted of attempted sexual assault in Washoe County, Nevada, and Esteban Garcia-Vasquez from Mexico, convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, battery, hit and run, and illegal re-entry in Whitfield County, Georgia.
Jesus Huerta-Padilla, a Mexican national, was arrested in Knoxville, Tennessee, following a conviction for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. Jose Luis Rauda-Diaz from El Salvador was taken into custody in Emporia, Kansas, where he had been convicted of aggravated robbery and two counts of weapons possession.
ICE also arrested Qasim Abdul Qayum, a Pakistani national convicted of enticing a minor by internet or text in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rajubhai Patel from India, convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering in Houston, Texas.
According to Bis, the enforcement actions reflect the administration’s priorities. “Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, ICE is targeting the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens,” she said.
The arrests span multiple states and represent a cross-section of serious criminal offenses, with many of those arrested having convictions for violent crimes or offenses involving vulnerable populations such as children.
