Cameron Brink Calls Enes Kanter Freedom a ‘Stupid Piece of Sh*t’ Over WNBA Draft Bid

LA Sparks star Cameron Brink ripped former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom, calling him a 'stupid piece of sh*t' and dismissing the transgender athlete debate as a 'non-issue' used for clickbait.

Cameron Brink Calls Enes Kanter Freedom a 'Stupid Piece of Sh*t' Over WNBA Draft Bid

Los Angeles Sparks forward Cameron Brink did not mince words when asked about former NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom’s attempt to enter the WNBA Draft, unleashing a blistering attack on the controversial figure ahead of her team’s Monday loss to the Atlanta Dream.

Brink’s comments, captured on video and reported by Awful Announcing, saw her feign ignorance of Freedom’s name before launching into a profanity-laced tirade.

“I don’t even know what the fuck his name is,” she exclaimed. “He’s a stupid piece of shit, and I think a lot of people think that. I think he’s just trying to stay relevant.”

Brink Dismisses Transgender Debate as ‘Non-Issue’

The Sparks forward went on to suggest that, apart from some online voices, most fans tune into the WNBA “for the right reasons,” though she did not elaborate on what those reasons might be. She then pivoted to the central issue at hand: transgender athletes in women’s sports.

“It’s great that we can all talk about things that are important and hard, and you can have your opinions on that,” Brink said. “But I think taking something that’s a non-issue right now and just trying to use it for clickbait, for views, for likes, and then targeting a vulnerable community is just really low.”

Her remarks come as Freedom, who has been a vocal critic of transgender women competing in women’s sports, has mounted a public campaign to join the WNBA. The league, however, has already informed the former NBA center that he will not be eligible for next year’s draft.

WNBA Cites ‘Publicity Stunts’

In a statement, the WNBA accused Freedom of engaging in “publicity stunts” but has stopped short of providing a detailed explanation for his ineligibility, as well as that of fellow former NBA player Royce White, who has also expressed interest in the draft.

The league’s decision comes after Freedom was ejected from a Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever game earlier this month. The incident occurred when Sky guard Natasha Cloud began verbally confronting Freedom after he celebrated a basket made by Fever star Sophie Cunningham. The exchange escalated quickly, leading to Freedom being escorted from the arena.

Freedom, who has been outspoken on political issues since defecting from Turkey, has long positioned himself as a defender of women’s sports, arguing that transgender participation undermines fair competition. His campaign to enter the WNBA draft has been widely seen as a provocative move aimed at highlighting that stance, a characterization Brink’s comments seem to endorse.

Brink’s outburst adds another layer to an already heated national conversation about transgender athletes, a topic that has become a flashpoint in American politics and sports. Her dismissal of the issue as a “non-issue” stands in stark contrast to Freedom’s framing, setting up what could be a continued war of words between the two as the draft approaches.

Neither the WNBA nor Freedom has publicly responded to Brink’s remarks as of this writing. The Sparks, meanwhile, continue their season as the debate over who belongs in the league — and on what grounds — rages on.
